Sen. Gillibrand eyes Troy, New York, for 2020 campaign base

Source: AP News

WASHINGTON (AP) ó Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is looking at basing a potential 2020 presidential campaign in Troy, New York, a small upstate city on the banks of the Hudson River, according to multiple people familiar with the discussions.

The search for a headquarters is the strongest signal yet that the New York senator will soon enter a presidential race that could ultimately draw dozens of candidates. The selection of Troy, 150 miles (240 kilometers) north of Manhattan, could allow Gillibrand to highlight her roots in upstate New York, where she was born and later represented in Congress before being appointed to the Senate.

The sources spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. They cautioned that a final decision hadnít yet been made.

Gillibrandís representatives didnít comment Thursday on her choice of headquarters.

1. Last person I would EVER vote for president in a democratic primary

Is Gillibrand. I remember what she did to Al Franken. I will not forgive and I will not forget.

4. No thanks, Kirsten

How dare she.

Al Franken. Al Franken. Al Franken.

That's all I've got to say.

6. In the unlikely event that she should win the Democratic Party's nomination

I would vote for her against whatever Repuke she faced, but as long as she has primary opposition I'll vote for her opponent. I can't believe she thinks she has a chance.

9. She probably doesn't (like most of the other candidates) but Franken has nothing to do with it

13. She may as well set up in Albany. Troy is right across the river.

15. Right, but the "fragrance" drifts across the river. Why not Western or Central NY?

Not that she would be my first choice, but Troy seems an odd choice for an HQ if the intent is to distance herself from Albany. Maybe she intends to use Albany staffers.

20. Rent is probably cheaper in Troy than Albany

Troy is an ex-factory town. Its got a lot of big empty spaces for cheap.
