Broward Sheriff Scott Israel tells staff he's being suspended over Parkland response

It appears that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is preparing to pack up his office.

The two-term sheriff, the object of fierce criticism over BSO’s handling of the Parkland massacre, told his top commanders that he will be removed from office by Gov. Ron DeSantis, sources have told the Miami Herald.

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is evidently going to remove Democrat Sheriff Scott Israel. Does Israel deserve this, or is he just being made the fall guy?

Is it that different in Florida? Does Trump's biggest fan have the authority to fire Israel?

Why is he? Because the NRA is telling him to. DeSantis is worse than Scott, and I am looking forward to the next four years.

I know PA has something similar, and, like FL, it involves a trial in the state Senate. It is usually political, but not always -- sometimes people are corrupt.

13. I'm not a Florida resident, but...

It's my understanding that the Florida governor can remove any Florida sheriff. But then the Florida Senate gets to decide whether to reinstate the sheriff, or to make the suspension permanent.

I suppose this power was given to the governor because many Southern sheriffs were (are?) corrupt.

Demanded stronger gun laws and he became their number 1 target.
Then Rubio found a way to blame Obama era changes to how minorities are disciplined imore harshly and often than white students responsible for white boys buying AR-15’s and mass murdering classmates.

So a democrat who was elected by the people is fired and ms. Devos changed school discipline rules back to harsher, more often discipline of black and brown students. MAGA

Republicans in my area are steep in corruption and no one does anything about rectifying their overreaches. They wash each other's back. But if they want someone out of their way, they will be the first to nail them for their incompetence. Support for each other's "stellar" reputations, despite their misdeeds is a bonding ritual.
