Romney Implies Obama Will Remove God From Coins, Obama Campaign Fires Back
Source: TPM
Mitt Romney suggested Saturday in Virginia Beach that President Obama wants to remove God from coins, provoking a fierce retort from the president's campaign. "I will not take God out of our platform," the Republican nominee said after reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. "I will not take God off our coins, and I will not take God out of my heart." In response, Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith called the insinsuation false and an act of desperation. "It’s disappointing to see Mitt Romney try to throw a Hail Mary by launching extreme and untrue attacks against the President and associating with some of the most strident and divisive voices in the Republican Party, including Rep. Steve King and Pat Robertson," she said in a statement. "This isn’t a recipe for making America stronger, it’s a recipe for division and taking us backward." 71. LOL!
Sadly, I have no artistic talent either.
But "Objectivist Jesus" would be a great satirical idea for someone out there who can draw. The idea isn't hard: pretty much just twist everything Jesus ever said in the Gospels with an objectivist spin. For the words in the speech balloons, I'd definitely use the King James Version, the real old-school Elizabethan English. That would rock. |

Obectivist Jesus says, "I am The Way, The Truth, and The Light...and for only three easy payments of $59.95, I'll send you the five CD set detailing My secret plan to get into Heaven.".
Objectivist Jesus says, "Look, I'm real sorry that all you guys are hungry, but if you would have been smart enough to plan ahead, you would have brought your own loaves and fishes. Now bugger off, can't you see that I'm eating?". Objectivist Jesus says, "Suffer the little children to come unto Me...just as long as they bought a ticket first. Send the others away, the leeches, I'm not in the business of just giving My love away for free.". Objectivist Jesus says, "Do unto others whatever you feel that you can get away with, after all, it's every man for himself here.". Objectivist Jesus says, "That what you do to the least of your brethren, they probably deserve it. After all, if I loved them, they wouldn't be poor, sick, or crippled now, would they?". |

98. Actually, No
The problem with fundamentalists is that they have forgotten they are Christians. They live their lives based on the Old Testament and the Pauline writings, and totally forget the example and words of Jesus in the middle bit, the Gospels. Makes it sort of hard for the other type of Christian to look themselves in the mirror.
Actually, I'm closer to Jesus when I use the pagan "great commandment" (I use that term advisably) "An it harm no others, do as thou wilt." |

Mittens is getting more desperate by the day. I really don't care that Mitt is a Mormon, seriously, but if he is going to imply that Barrack is Godless, hasn't he just put his Mormonism on the table for all to examine?
Did the Angel "Moroni" really appear to Joseph Smith? Did Jesus really come to the United States? Was your grandfather a polygamist who had to flee to Mexico on immorality charges? Let's talk about the details of Mormonism with Evangelical Christians. I'm sure they would be just fine with it! Oh, but wait! Mitt's white, so we can't made slanderous statements that imply he is Godless. |

Jeez, and all these years I've thought God dwelled in a place called "Heaven" or the "Hereafter". So, does that mean that if I rip up a dollar bill, I'm destroying where God lives? I don't think this latest ploy will buy them any votes, and it may well backfire. Any votes Romney might have in the bag by way of lies, misinformation, fear, guilt by association, hatred, intolerance, and bigotry have already been "secured". I hear then with the wingnuts say, "If the gays can get married, then that threatens my marriage!"
Really? So if Joe and Steve, or Heather and Jessica from down the street get married, does mean that the average wingnut is suddenly going to be filled with the overwhelming urge to divorce his/her spouse and marry another person of the same gender? If so, well, then the wingnuts clearly have some issues they need to address. Mostly a sweet, sweet (yet oh-so-forbidden) yearning for hot, sweaty gay sex. C'mon wingnuts; fess up. something H.P. Lovecraft wrote about the Puritans and their obsession with sexuality as well.
Essentially, because they were so sexually inhibited, their inhibition turned into a morbid fascination with sexuality which degenerated into an unhealthy and ultimately perverse obsession. Seriously; you've got to wonder. I've read some of the posts over at FR when I'm trawling around over there, and these "upright, God-fearing Christian folk" sure do have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of gay sex. 43. btw, your last line was a little stinky and not very kind.... look at my other posts....
.....and you will see that your comment wasn't warrented.... I am a proud liberal and I am more interested in forwarding liberal causes than fitting in... I have no problem making adjustments for folks that find offense where I did not know it existed.... and have no problem making a change, for you, and others that might take offense to my using Barrack Obama's initials?
a couple last items... If I were a repug like you might have been implying in your post, I would have used the initials BHO, since they ALWAYS make sure everybody is reminded of President Obama's 'exotic' middle name. also, my initials happen to be 'TP', you know what that stands for? I have had those initials, last time I checked... my entire life and I have never taken offense and actually find it kind of funny that I got stuck with that one. I say, with all kindness... try not to be so judgemental... your comment would have been taken with appreciation and gratitude, but you had to throw that little zinger in, what up? anyhow - Peace!!! ![]() |

In Norway we have our kings "motto" "alt for Norge" or everything for Norway if we take a literal translation about it. It goes all the back to our first king in modern time Haakon the 7th, who in 1905 was made king of Norway. And for more than 40 year, worked hard to gain respect and care from his people - his motto was "alt for Norge" something that all 3 kings from 1905 have had as their motto... Maybe US should try some like this - who is natural, but who everyone could agree was the best way to "coin" it? Diclotican |

57. I think that's an excellent point! I thought in the conventions, for example, it
really got to the point of trivializing the concept of God which means a lot to some people. To me, the politicians were using it as a tool, as a form of propaganda. I don't know the word count in the conventions, but to me it was way overused and in trite redundant phrases. I'm not a religious person, but I certainly agree with what you are saying.

I agree wholeheartedly - once I pointed out that my mom b1927 never ever said "under God" the whole time she was in school. She turned out fine. (except being a Democrat lol) I get tired of some people wrapping themselves up in a god and a flag and trying to make others feel uncomfortable
as to the anthem, I've been to more ball games than I can count and still can't sing the thing!! ![]() |

Starting with your user name. My favorite John Carpenter movie. If I ever get another dog I am going to name him Nada. I am no longer a Christian, but I remember well the lesson of Jesus throwing out the money changers. Mitt ran one of those things at Bain. I think Mitt made baby Jesus cry. I think a real Christian would demand that God be taken off of our currency and replace it with Mammon.

Ok, Mitt, you brought up religion, so why don't we talk more about your religion! Are you wearing the magic underwear right now? Can we see it? Did you wear the magic underwear the night of you convention? If so, why didn't it work? Also, your religion believes that Jesus used to live in Missouri. Do you believe he went up in the St Louis arch and if so--is this proof that Jesus was not afraid of heights? I can't wait to talk more about Mormonism and how unique it is! Thanks Mitt for bringing up the topic of religion. |

84. This is the second thing I've read today
that makes me think Romney is beyond desperate. The first was his slam of his own running mate's vote for cutting defense spending. He is doing anything he can to blunt Obama's convention bounce, and it won't work. The only people who will respond to this sort of nonsense are the tinfoilers who were going to vote for Romney anyway.
Like the old internet flame goes, Romney is behaving like a rabid rat, spinning in a circle, waiting for the bite of the snake. |
