President Trump has agreed to shut down his embattled personal charity amid allegations that he used it for his personal and political benefit and give away its remaining funds, the New York attorney general announced Tuesday.

New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced that the Donald J. Trump Foundation is dissolving as her office pursues its lawsuit against the charity, Trump and his three eldest children.

The attorney general’s suit, filed in June, alleged “persistently illegal conduct” at the charity and sought to have the foundation shut down. Underwood is continuing to seek more than $2.8 million in restitution and has asked a judge to ban the Trumps temporarily from serving on the boards of other New York nonprofits.

Underwood said Tuesday that her investigation found “a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation — including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more.”

and enforced by long-standing norms. Trump didn't care about norms and has no shame, so couldn't be shamed into it.

We need to pass laws:
1) Before entering a campaign, a candidate must reveal last 10 years of tax returns
2) Must undergo an FBI background check
3) Any business interests must either be sold off or put into the hands of a neutral blind trust. Investments must go into a blind trust.

And, have real penalties for each - not allowed to run if #1 and #2 are not met in full.

Not sure about a divestment penalty? Maybe if you don't, business holdings and investments are handed to a judge to put into a blind trust, minus 10% for expenses?

Not specifically to bust them if they take drugs, but the people deserve to know if their future leader who might be interacting with other countries is taking any significant mood-altering substances or medications that would signal potential psychological problems or impulse control issues.

“Our petition detailed a shocking pattern of illegality involving the Trump Foundation – including unlawful coordination with the Trump presidential campaign, repeated and willful self-dealing, and much more. This amounted to the Trump Foundation functioning as little more than a checkbook to serve Mr. Trump’s business and political interests.

Thanks for letting us go scott free. Now go arrest those poor people and put them in jail. WTF is wrong with this country? Why is it punishment enough just to embarrass the rich that they get caught ripping off the public. LOCK THEM UP!!! ENOUGH OF THIS SEPARATE JUSTICE FOR ALL!!! JEEBUS!!!

New York/New Jersey/Wherever didn't prosecute Trump's businesses for their illegal activities in the past, so he's learned that he can get away with pretty much anything if he blusters enough and throws enough lawyers with threatening letters at his opponents. From what little I've seen, if someone has the resources to stand their ground Trump caves.

I think it's almost too late to do much about Trump himself, given his age and presumed health. But there's no reason not to make his family (and I'm including Mel) adhere to the law.

...agencies seize from Trump's many organizations let alone his and his kids bank accounts?

I mean, if Manafort alone gave up what, $50,000,000, how many bucks can we get from Trump?

$100 million? $200 million? All of it?

I like the last one...take every single dollar!
