Missouri Secretary of State Ashcroft launches investigation into Josh Hawley

Source: St. Louis Post Dispatch

JEFFERSON CITY • Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft has launched an investigation into the way Attorney General Josh Hawley ran the office, Ashcroft’s deputy general counsel wrote to a Democratic-allied group Thursday.

The American Democracy Legal Fund wrote to Ashcroft on Nov. 2, days before the midterm elections, alleging that Hawley may have “used public funds as Attorney General to support his candidacy for U.S. Senate.”

The complaint came after the Kansas City Star reported on Oct. 31 that political advisers who would run Hawley’s U.S. Senate campaign also directed taxpayer-funded staff, confusing the attorney general office’s chain of command.

5. Blunt is a POS, too!

I'm hoping that Missouri can nominate a real Den to run against him 2022 and not another Claire McCaskill type Democrat who spends their term as a Dem chasing after Republican votes!

Evan McMullin seems to have some integrity.

Can’t think of any others.

4. Surprising! Ashcroft (son of the man who lost a Senate

Race to a deadman) is a Republican that assumed would provide cover for a fellow republican.

Hawley was under fire for slow-walking the investigation into accusations that our previous Governor was extorting silence from the victim of his sexual abuse...

Also, there were charges that he used funds from a charity for veterans...

10. Ashcroft has a lot to lose if he decides to put his career at stake by covering for Josh Hawley.

He also has his dad's name to honor, if that's realistic.

11. John Ashcroft's son. Interesting.

Reading the name I checked and found this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ashcroft#Personal_life

We are getting so used to marching in line by the GOP to protect the GOP regardless of the egregiousness of the act.

Is this going back to an era when pursuing legitimate charges regardless of party? Or the onsent of a party-line "clearing" of the record?

Cynical self says the latter. But is there a small chance that it is the former?

Would love Missourian's read on this.

15. He wants a bigger job.

This is not to say he isn't honest, but he is a politician. Sound like a great deal to me. If he skewers Hawley he can get a lot of publicity and run for higher office without people questioning his honesy.
