MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Protesters chanting Shame! disrupted a tree-lighting ceremony and a legislative session at the Wisconsin state capitol on Tuesday as Republican lawmakers moved toward a vote on bills to weaken the incoming Democratic governor and attorney general.
Wisconsins lame-duck Republican-majority legislature called a rare post-election session this week to consider the proposals before Governor-elect Tony Evers takes office in January and can exercise his veto power.
Democrats say the moves undercut the results of Nov. 6 elections, when their party broke years of total Republican control of state government in Wisconsin.
A similar effort is underway in Michigan, where the Republican-controlled legislature is weighing new laws that would hamstring incoming Democrats.

(4,450 posts)The Kocks, with ALEC help. Almost all the bad shit that has happened since the Rs took over Wisconsin in 2010 has come straight from those two organizations. Walker, Vos, Fitzgerald, and Vukmir are/were never more than empty vessels put in place to do their masters' bidding. Well, OK, Vos has always been a particularly nasty little prick, but the rest of them are pretty much sock puppets for the Kochs and ALEC.

(26,044 posts)It's simple: the current legislature is entitled to pass legislation for the current governor to sign and turn into law. It doesn't matter in the slightest if they're lame ducks -- they're still the legitimate legislative and executive authorities until their terms end.

Just a Weirdo
(488 posts)And have them turned in for Republicans who signed on to this bill. Courts should bar an recall candidate from legislating while under recall.
