Manafort's Lawyer Said to Brief Trump Attorneys on What He Told Mueller
Source: NY Times
WASHINGTON — A lawyer for Paul Manafort, the president’s onetime campaign chairman, repeatedly briefed President Trump’s lawyers on his client’s discussions with federal investigators after Mr. Manafort agreed to cooperate with the special counsel, according to one of Mr. Trump’s lawyers and two other people familiar with the conversations. The arrangement was highly unusual and inflamed tensions with Mr. Mueller’s office when prosecutors discovered it after Mr. Manafort began cooperating two months ago, the people said. Some legal experts speculated that it was a bid by Mr. Manafort for a presidential pardon even as he worked with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, in hopes of a lighter sentence. 1. Definitely not lying to a federal investigator nor perjury...
that's just for impeaching Democrats, obviously.

4. the updates assured Trumps legal team that Manafort had not implicated Trump!..
How convenient for fat trump!
...........Mr. Downing did not respond to a request for comment. Though it was unclear how frequently he spoke to Mr. Trump’s lawyers or how much he revealed, his updates helped reassure Mr. Trump’s legal team that Mr. Manafort had not implicated the president in any possible wrongdoing.............. 17. Add "AG" Whitaker to the mix...
and TrumpCo. knows pretty much everything that's going on in the Mueller investigation.

18. That's just it, though
He was lieing to protect Trump. The FBI knew he was lieing and played along
Manafort ran back to tell Trump what lies he told the FBI (and presumably what lies they pretended to believe) Trump repeated the lies in his written question proffer It was a set up |

5. This could blow up because Mueller's team obviously feels strongly that
Manafort lied to them.
If Trump copied those lies in his written response, he's got a much bigger problem than he already had. Here's hoping that is what happened .. |

8. This exactly. I can't imagine Mueller didn't have a contingency plan for this, and may have
set it up to use their own collusion in obstruction of justice against them.

11. And there is real irony that actually makes me laugh
Giuliani and Trump have always complained about a perjury trap which they describe as one person saying something different than Trump and using that against him to nail him for perjury. (Ignoring that if you get two different stories about the same thing, only one can be truthful ...)
Trump has also maintained like a broken record "no collusion" But here, Trump appears to be colluding with Manafort on a tale to tell Mueller - where they may well both say the same thing to support each other and try to throw Mueller off ... which Mueller knows is a lie and can prove it. If it turns out that way, Trump is fucked ... by collusion to lie. |

19. I don't think they felt like he was lieing to them
They knew he was lieing. Which means they have proof

20. From what I saw of the cases against Manafort
the vast documentation, extensive depth of details and witnesses to back them up, etc, I have little doubt they have proof.
i'm left wondering if they realized it and were playing Trump and Manafort. If I had to bet on it, that is how I would bet. Trump & Giuliani feared discrepancy in testimony could be used against them to get Trump on perjury. So they stupidly collude with Manafort to avoid that (based on Manafort's lies) ... only to arrive at a likely perjury charge. It is almost poetic if that is what has just gone down. |

14. A suggestion about the word "Collusion"
DU should ban the word collusion, collusion is the preferred word by repubs because they think it diverts people's minds from the real crime, which is "CONSPIRACY". From now on everyone should be talking about their conspiracies with the Russians, themselves, etc.
Just a suggestion...I feel that one change will drive them mad. |

It was reported some time ago that there was a joint defense agreement that allows the Trump and Manafort attorneys to share information.
