Daryl Washington, an attorney for the family of the slain man, said the grand jury began hearing the case Monday. Amber Guyger was arrested on a manslaughter charge after the Sept. 6 shooting of Botham Jean, a 26-year-old native of St. Lucia.

The grand jury will hear evidence and decide whether to indict Guyger. It could also decide on a more serious charge.

Jean's family has filed a lawsuit against Guyger and the city of Dallas in the shooting.

1. Insanity

Seeing community accountability committees being approved is a big step in ensuring that horrific incidents by officers don't get blued off the books.

2. I heard something on NPR

Last week I heard someone talking about the defense's case on NPR, and from what I recall, there is some kind of law in Texas that allows for defending property with deadly force at night and that this was how the defense was going to try to argue that
the police woman thought she was in her house and defending her property

4. But will that extend

to "defending" a property you THINK is yours? That would be a slippery slope indeed. I still wonder if there was some kind of previous relationship between the officer and her victim. Such a strange case.

3. As procedure, wouldn't a drug/alcohol test be done if a person uses 'i don know ' as a defense?

Done during the time the investigation starts?
