After a bumpy day of missing ballots, troubled Broward recount put on ice until the morning

Source: Sun-sentinel

Broward County’s ballot recount hit yet another snag Saturday with 2,040 ballots lost or misplaced.

The county’s eternally beleaguered Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes said they either misplaced, misfiled or mixed in with another stack

One thing she said she was sure of: “The ballots are in this building.”

“There would be nowhere else for them to be,” Snipes said. “The ballots are in the building. The ballots are in the building.”

3. Sigh.........

Who is responsible for training ?

"An election worker likely misplaced the ballots, Snipes told the Canvassing Board and Democratic and Republican party attorneys gathered to watch-dog the process in a warehouse-like recount room behind the Lauderhill Mall.
“I’m not blaming anyone,” she said. “But many of our team members were not as well trained as some others.” "

6. Broward County voters love her

"The idea, then, that Snipes could be removed from office without having committed a serious crime or ethical violation is not without precedent. But what would be unprecedented is for Scott to do so while Snipes is determining the ballot count in a race in which the governor is running.

Of course, Snipes could always be removed the natural way — through an election. She’s next up for election in 2020. But Snipes has easily weathered previous attempts to remove her from office. In 2016, citing many past issues with elections during Snipes’ term in office, David Brown ran against her in a Democratic primary. He even garnered the endorsement of the Sun Sentinel. He was defeated 76-24.

She had no opponent in 2012, but in 2008, she had both Democratic and independent opponents, and beat them both with more than 80 percent of the vote.

In both 2008 and 2012, her opponents pointed to the elections office’s history of failings under Snipes. She won anyway, and easily."
