Rouda defeats Rohrabacher in southern California
Source: Politico
Democrat Harley Rouda on Saturday claimed victory in the race for Californias 48th Congressional District, unseating 15-term incumbent Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher in one of the most anticipated House contests of the 2018 election cycle.
Roudas victory is sure to energize Democrats, who've galvanized to flip several House seats in the traditionally heavily Republican enclave of Orange County in southern California since 2016.
His win adds further padding to Democrats majority in the chamber after the party picked up 30 seats on Election Day, and it brings to a close the nearly three-decade tenure of the pro-Russia representative often referred to by critics as Putins favorite congressman.
Though ballots are still being counted, Saturdays tally showed Rouda with 52 percent of the vote and about 8,500 more votes than Rohrabacher, according to the Associated Press.

(7,486 posts)Must be especially gratifying to you. The person I worked for lost but it is a really red district so not unexpected. Just a great election overall though.

Yeah, this was personally gratifying. But far more satisfying was the tremendous collective effort made nationwide to seat so many Democrats, and in so doing repudiate Trump.
So yes, thank you for all you did. It was a group effort.

(13,020 posts)Our democracy has no place for Putin puppets like him. This election is a clear rebuke and rejection of the manipulation of Putin by the majority of Americans.
As Lawrence Tribe said, Phase I is done - taking back the House. Phase II is to make sure we get the DOTUS occupying the WH the hell out in 2020, if Mueller doesn't get him first, and snatch the Senate from Murky Mcconnell. Dems need to control all 3 levers of power to reverse the damage the GOP and this hideous man has inflicted upon America. We need to make sure to stay in power for as long as we can till decency and respect for the rule of law is restored again. These are especially dark times we're living through. But this win - and WHAT SWEET WIN IT WAS! - is only the beginning.
