Marine Corps aviators grounded amid investigation into phallic flight pattern

Source: CBS News

Two Marine Corps aviators have been grounded while they're being investigated "for flying a pattern resembling an obscene image" over Southern California, according to a military spokesman.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said last month that a "T-34C aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, flew an irregular flight pattern over the Salton Sea that resembled a phallic image."

Now, the aircraft crew are not flying pending the results of an investigation, said Maj. Josef Patterson, a spokesman for the 3rd Marine Air Wing, ABC News reported.

Alleged images showing the pattern were posted on Twitter on October 23. The user initially identified the plane as a Navy aircraft but later said it belonged to the Marine Corps.

22. If those pilots are members in good standing of the military

I would hope that their superiors treat them genitally.

7. For those not in the military

There's an extra level of humor to this in that many other branches of the service joke about the propensity for marines to draw genitalia on things as graffiti. I didn't know their aviators did it too!

14. The T34C is a single engine turboprop trainer.

It spends most of its time below 12000 feet and would not have left any contrails, so the only trace of this would be the radar track.

I doubt they thought it would make the news.

Cocky U.S. pilot draws penis in sky, but navy not amused

WASHINGTON/SPOKANE, WASHINGTON An air crew who used their U.S. Navy warplane to create a vulgar graffito in the sky above the town of Okanogan, Washington, have been grounded, the navy said Friday.

An electronic warfare plane from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island near Seattle drew the male genitals with its contrails on Thursday.

Many residents of the central Washington town of 2,500 people spotted the scrawl in the clear skies, and images of it immediately went viral on social media. A local television station said one mother in Okanogan County was concerned she might have to explain it to her young children.

because they've never seen one.

BTW - I met quite a few female pilots in the Navy. They never felt the need to draw a vulva in the sky.

Damn.. Vulva in the Sky would be a great name for a rock band.
