WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee is pursuing a wide-ranging investigation into former White House adviser Steve Bannon’s activities during the 2016 presidential campaign, three sources familiar with the inquiry told Reuters.

The committee is looking into what Bannon might know about any contacts during the campaign between Moscow and two advisers to the campaign, George Papadopoulos and Carter Page, they said.

Papadopoulos, a consultant, initially advised the presidential campaign of Republican hopeful Ben Carson before joining the Trump campaign. Page is also a consultant, who had business contacts in Russia.

On Sept. 7, Papadopoulos was sentenced to 14 days in prison. He had pleaded guilty last year to lying to FBI agents about the timing and significance of his contacts with Russians, including a professor who told him the Russians had “dirt” on Trump’s Democratic presidential rival, Hillary Clinton.

1. Oh Lord, please commence with the shitstorm that's due to rain down on these vile creatures!

Please pile it on deep, that they may never lose the stench of it.

Stanque it so high can't get over it, stanque it so low, can't get under it, stanque it so wide can't get around it.
Oh, they gonna have to stanque on thru the Special Consul's door.

3. I'm skeptical - Intel Committee is still controlled by GOPers

In my feeble little mind the only way this adds up is if the repubs are going to throw Bannon under the bus in order to cover up for Tiny.

4. This is the Republican effort to clear PapaDop...

This isn't for real... this is like the House's misdirection play on investigating everything but the facts. This will be their answer to the Mueller report. It will become partisan, just like Nunez...

6. The Republican Senate? This can only mean one thing, to me.

They're getting busy to find a scapegoat, to place the blame, if Trump gets into trouble.

7. That's what I figure too - they're not really investigating anything

If somebody has a whoopsie and uncovers something, they'll just cover it back up real quick.
Just for the record, Bannon was already deposed last year by Mueller about something or other.

9. I didn't recall that he'd been deposed by Mueller. Makes sense, though.

The Republican Senate isn't as bad as the House, but in the end, they've done about as much to curb Trump's outrageous behavior as the House has done. Nothing. And we saw how the Senate was about Kavanaugh.

So why now? Why "investigate" anything now? It certainly isn't to get to the bottom of anything for the adherence to law or for the country's benefit.

So I figure it's to look for a scapegoat. Or to punish him, if Bannon has given Mueller something against Trump and they know it. Or to find out what he told Mueller. They're up to something, though. I read that they're going to investigate Bannon's involvement with Cambridge Analytica, which the Trump campaign had hired. Uh-huh. If anything is found by Mueller, the Senate wants to blame Bannon for it, is my guess.

I wonder what Bannon thinks of his former den of thieves, now?
