We are thankful it doesnt appear serious, but covet your prayers while the doctors treat her.

Ainsworth has been a representative in the state legislature since 2014. Earlier this year, he led the charge to allow trained, certified school teachers and administrators to carry guns on campuses. After 17 people were gunned down at a high school in Parkland, Florida, Ainsworth sponsored the legislation, which drew roiling debate in Montgomery. The legislation didnt have enough support to become law.

... get elected to the state legislature.
... sponsor legislation to put guns in schools in the wake of the Parkland massacre.
... win the Lt Gov primary.
... your wife gets shot and injured in your home because youre not a responsible gun owner ...
PRICELESS.
NOTE: I added the (R) to the tirle since AL.com is kind of known for not identifying party affiliation on bad stories. It is in the body of the article, though.

(10,624 posts)I'm Southern Baptist, and I've heard that expression many, many times. (I suspect other evangelical denominations say it too.)

(6,831 posts)Kendall Ainsworth was injured while shooting at something called a "skeet."
Jedi Guy
(3,185 posts)Skeet are clay disks launched into the air for target shooting. Fairly common down south. I knew a lot of people in southern Mississippi who went skeet shooting fairly often.
Haggis for Breakfast
(6,831 posts)Do they use something like a puck-shooter ? But into the air ?
Could it be that someone shot at a skeet as it was closing in on the ground and she was nearby the landing zone ?
I've never done this, so I have to ask.
Jedi Guy
(3,185 posts)I expect there's a machine of some kind that launches them into the air.
And your theory could be true. If someone is careless with a loaded gun, only bad things result from it. One reason I try to avoid being around guns, which is fairly easy here in Canada.

(3,185 posts)So long as you don't mind rabbits for roommates, since we have two in our spare bedroom.

(6,831 posts)2 rabbits usually equaled 100 in about six months, so that must be a really big spare room !!

(11,949 posts)I have done it many, many times and if memory serves it may have been an Olympic sport.
How someone is injured doing that boggles the mind. They obviously ignored even the basics of shotgun safety. We are not talking AR-15s or handguns but 2-3 shot shotguns like our great grandparents used.
Not surprising considering.

(6,831 posts)Wouldn't the greater skill come in using a handgun ?
Shotguns just blast pellet everywhere.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)Even with a shotgun it is difficult. Think of small dinner plates/freebies. But it is normally a standard course and the targets are thrown by machines. I cant see how anyone is shot doing this absent gross negligence or alcohol.
To understand how this sport ranks in safety realize the Western European countries dominate it historically.
It is not gun nut shit. It is the kind of firearms activity Democrats can support.

(6,831 posts)shot some poor man in the face ! But I think they were hunting gamebirds. However, that poor man's face was not in flight, which means that Cheney was either a really god-awful shot, or drunker than an Irishman on St. Paddy's.

(18,599 posts)It would take superhuman skill to hit a flying skeet with a handgun. Also the bullet from the handgun will travel a mile or two. The shotgun pellets will be out of energy in a couple hundred yards.
Haggis for Breakfast
(6,831 posts)But isn't the shooting of the skeet done at a range ? Like out in the boonies.
sarisataka
(18,599 posts)A couple times on private land where we had a mile+ safety zone.
A regular range will require lightweight shot that will rapidly lose energy so I believe you could get away with a 200-300 yard range in a 180 degree semi-regular circle.
I think they are usually always out more due to the sound than need for space.

(23,307 posts)when I was 13 years old. I pulled and scored for the shooters which meant you sit in an elevated chair with a button in your hand that remotely operates an automated thrower that launches a clay disk or pidgeon for the marksperson to shoot wiith a shotgun. When the shooter yells pull! Id push the button to send the clay pidgeon into the air for the marksperson to shoot. Skeet refers to the clay pidgeon moving from side to side and Trap refers to the clay pidgeon that moves away from the shooter. It was a great first job. I loved it. I made $3.10 per hour back in 1978.

Women weren't allowed to work overtime or be paid overtime rates due to laws supposedly protecting women from exploitation, so they'd just ask us to volunteer, but it was worth it anyway.

It's he left handed or just personal preference i wonder?
