Rosenstein is pressing Mueller to wrap it up, official says
Next steps expected to occur after November midterm elections
Special Counsel Robert Mueller is expected to issue findings on core aspects of his Russia probe soon after the November midterm elections as he faces intensifying pressure to produce more indictments or shut down his investigation, according to two U.S. officials.
Specifically, Mueller is close to rendering judgment on two of the most explosive aspects of his inquiry: whether there were clear incidents of collusion between Russia and Donald Trumps 2016 campaign, and whether the president took any actions that constitute obstruction of justice, according to one of the officials, who asked not to be identified speaking about the investigation.
That doesnt necessarily mean Muellers findings would be made public if he doesnt secure unsealed indictments. The regulations governing Muellers probe stipulate that he can present his findings only to his boss, who is currently Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The regulations give a special counsels supervisor some discretion in deciding what is relayed to Congress and what is publicly released.
The question of timing is critical. Muellers work wont be concluded ahead of the Nov. 6 midterm elections, when Democrats hope to take control of the House and end Trumps one-party hold on Washington.

snip from the article:
"The question of timing is critical. Muellers work wont be concluded ahead of the Nov. 6 midterm elections, when Democrats hope to take control of the House and end Trumps one-party hold on Washington.
But this timeline also raises questions about the future of the probe itself. Trump has signaled he may replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions after the election, a move that could bring in a new boss for Mueller. Rosenstein also might resign or be fired by Trump after the election."

(7,768 posts)The same Rosenstein (the Republican) who was patting Kavanaugh on the back at his Senate hearing!
I totally trust Mueller. The jury is still out (for me) on Rosenstein.
Remember, Rosenstein isn't even required to release Mueller's findings! What happens if he doesn't?
Will IC patriots leak their guts out to trusted Media? I sure as hell hope so!
Mueller is smart enough to anticipate what the criminal in the White House may do. I suspect he has a back-up "Plan B".
I hope he's allowed to engage it.

(42,770 posts)when the leak about him and the 25th amendment comments came out. He seemed to scramble to ingratiate himself with Tiny. And Tiny has made comments that he and Rosenstein get along great. (Scary)
Either Rosenstein is a great chess player and actor or he has Trump's back. And like you...I wouldn't bet the farm on either one.

So many cockroaches hiding under so many rocks, Democrats are going to be very busy come January.

(77 posts)Not sure who these unnamed officials are. They are not from Muellers team. Sealed indictments are a plenty and that is the way Mueller will make this shit show go away and the Trumps be brought down. Have a great day everyone!

(61,675 posts)Trump would declare it was a political conclusion, and his followers would wreak havoc on the election. Seems like either way, we've been screwed. The announcement needs to be made public as soon as the election is over, before IQ45 starts clearing out the Justice Dept.

(42,770 posts)told Tiny not to worry? about his role, that is, and Jr's and Ivanka's? Assuming Tiny cares about them.
Or Rosenstein's been told to keep Tiny calm? But seems Tiny would see through a charade.
I would think DOJ standard operating procedure would be to stay away from targets and not to engage in acting?
So maybe you are right, maybe they can't prove anything. Not like they were ever gonna find anything taped or written " come help us Russia.". Always thought it would end up that 10 people said trump said to involve Russia. And one who said they were all lying.

(3,245 posts)and I wouldn't be at all suprised to learn that that meeting Trump and Rosenstein had on AF1 was designed to set the ground rules by which Muelller's report and its scope.
Personally, I wouldn't be at all suprised to learn that the Mueller report to Rosenstein would be limited to actions that Trump, personally, took. A report that is that limited could be easily buried and not made public and would allow Trump to continue to tout the "no collusion" claim because we wouldn't know the facts.
Also, I wouldn't be at all suprised that everyone else would be fair game for indictments, including the kids.

(14,250 posts)Muehler isn't close to being done, although a couple of sections may be nearly complete. For example, he is said to have opened an investigation into the manhatten DA's office, and another into whether actual vote tampering occurred. Those 2 are new and not complete by any means.
This has been a risk since the original and supplemental authorization memo's were issued. A new AG could issue a new scope memo saying what topics can be investigated, which witnesses can be interviewed, and when it will end. It can be completely gutted and stopped cold. A doctored report absolving trump could be cooked up.
He may have sealed indictments he already has authorization to release at his discretion. Hell, he may already have authorization to release his findings at will.
He could also petition a court to release the report, or stay any limits on his work on grounds it's a further obstruction of justice (wonder how kav would vote on the appeal to that).
My guess is this will end up a shooting war, with us as the recipients. Certain elements would love a civil war rematch. Putin among them.

(12,539 posts)Their argument to their base is that if the Dems take control of the House they'll immediately impeach Mushroom Dick doesn't make sense, if there actually was #NOCOLLUSION. You can't just impeach out of thin air, no matter what the GOP did to Clinton. Plus, you've got to get 60 votes to convict in the Senate, and we're not going to get that. We've got better things to do with our time, like protecting Medicare, Medicare and Social Security, instituting real election finance reform, cutting middle class taxes and raising them on the rich, protecting public lands from exploitation, and reinstating the regulations that Trumpistas have been chucking out left and right.
And then there needs to be a law prohibiting Trump from repainting Air Force One to reflect his ego.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)there that there are indictments coming? If I wanted to excited my base I would float that they are floundering and wasting time and hurting Tiny's ability to government (joke that that is)

(988 posts)I have always felt Mueller was going to wait for the DEMS to take either the house or senate because he felt that was the best way to fairly provide a report.
Had he given the reports to just Republicans, they would have sealed it up in a vault and told Dems they would be prosecuted if they leaked any part of this.

(7,134 posts)Mueller (unlike Comey) is following DoJ guidelines to not influence an election in the weeks prior. He went silent in Sept. and not a peep from him or his office since then.
Come the morning of 07 November? Look out!
My guess, and hope, is that he has new indictments sitting in his office safe just waiting for that morning, all aimed at Trump Jr. Eric Prince, Roger Stone, Carter Page, Sessions, Giuliani, Mariia Butina, the NRA, Bannon, Clovis, Schmitz and more.

(29,322 posts)It bothers me Rosenstein is pressuring Mueller to wrap it up when his office should be free from that to conduct a thorough investigation.

(42,770 posts)But how many times have we tried to rationalize things by thinking the less likely is happening? When it is more likely that what we are seeing is what is true. That Rosenstein probably is pushing Mueller to end. What gives me hope is that Rosenstein comments about Tiny and the 25th Amendment we're really accurate.

(1,098 posts)but I wouldn't anticipate the disclosure of anything even remotely resembling a "bombshell". Unfortunately, it's highly likely that King Donald has already receive assurances from Rosenstein that neither he or any immediate family members will be implicated in any illicit activities/actions. Donnie Boy seems way too confident of late - especially after his meeting with Rosenstein.

(7,220 posts)If it's a thorough investigation as it's been purported to be, but it just doesn't happen to have the conclusion we're hoping for, then no.
I think based on what we've seen with Cohen, Gates, Flynn, Manafort etc., somebody's going to turn on the worm. Those sweetheart deals weren't for idle pillow-talk, they had to have the goods and be willing to testify.
Mueller's brought down the mob. If Trumpy and Co and guilty, Mueller will get him.
