Brothel owner, Assembly candidate Dennis Hof dead at 72

Prominent Nevada brothel owner and Assembly candidate Dennis Hof has died, his campaign manager tweeted on Tuesday, just days after his 72nd birthday.

Nye County spokesman Arnold Knightly said Nye County Commission Chair John Koenig announced the death at a commission meeting on Tuesday morning. The circumstances were under investigation, but Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue was on scene in Crystal, where one of Hof’s brothels is located, Knightly said.

Knightly said Hof had gone to sleep and did not wake up.

Less than 24 hours ago, Hof celebrated his birthday along with pornographic actor Ron Jeremy, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist.

Under Nevada state law, candidates who die after the fourth Friday in July will still be placed on the ballot, but the county clerk must post a notice that the candidate is deceased at every polling place. If the deceased candidate receives a majority of the votes, the office is vacated and must be filled as if the candidate died in office. Nevada’s Constitution requires that the board of county commissioners fill any vacant legislative seat with a person of the same political party.

The area is super red. If he wins (very likely), it will be considered a vacancy. One reporter on Twitter cited this NV law:

1.??A vacancy occurring in a party nomination for the office of State Senator, Assemblyman or Assemblywoman from a legislative district comprising more than one county may be filled as follows, subject to the provisions of subsections 2, 3 and 4. The county commissioners of each county, all or part of which is included within the legislative district, shall meet to appoint a person who is of the same political party as the former nominee and who actually, as opposed to constructively, resides in the district to fill the vacancy, with the chair of the board of county commissioners of the county whose population residing within the district is the greatest presiding. Each board of county commissioners shall first meet separately and determine the single candidate it will nominate to fill the vacancy. Then, the boards shall meet jointly and the chairs on behalf of the boards shall cast a proportionate number of votes according to the percent, rounded to the nearest whole percent, which the population of its county is of the population of the entire district. Populations must be determined by the last decennial census or special census conducted by the Bureau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce. The person who receives a plurality of these votes is appointed to fill the vacancy. If no person receives a plurality of the votes, the boards of county commissioners of the respective counties shall each as a group select one candidate, and the nominee must be chosen by drawing lots among the persons so selected.

9. Funny story; Ron Jeremy offered to buy me a drink about 2 months into living in L.A. in 1989

I had no clue who he was but my roommates did (they all happened to be guys).
I went to order a drink from the bar before the band we went to see played.
They freaked out when I returned from the bar which they were standing near the side of. Jumping up and down asking what was said to me, I said that guy offered to buy my drink but I had already ordered a coke. They screamed with delight and then revealed who he was. I had never heard of him. They educated me.

Look at the various folks who attended the party. Grover Norquist? Joe Arpaio? This just goes to show that the binding force of the Republican party is racism and sexism. If anything, you have to wonder whether there was anything fishy about his death given how he would have been an inconvenient walking and talking example of Republican hypocrisy.
