Michelle Obama: George W. Bush is 'my partner in crime' and 'I love him to death'

Source: USATODAY

Former first lady Michelle Obama said Thursday that ex-President George W. Bush has become her "partner in crime" after years of sitting together at official events.

"President Bush and I are forever seatmates because of protocol Ė that's how we sit at all the official functions," Obama said on NBC's "Today" show. "So he is my partner in crime at every major thing where all the formers gather. I love him to death," Obama added. "He's a wonderful man. He's a funny man."

Obama expressed her affection for Bush after being asked about the moment when Bush handed her a cough drop at the Sept. 1 funeral of the late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain. The moment, which happened at the National Cathedral in Washington, went viral on social media. Bush was handing a cough drop to his wife, Laura, when Obama leaned over and asked him if she could have one too. She said she didn't realize that anyone was watching the "simple gesture."

"And I will add that they were old cough drops," Obama said, describing them as being in an official White House box. "And I was like, 'How long have you had these?' They said, 'A long time. We got a lot of these.' " Obama, a Democrat, said her friendship with Bush, a Republican, defies labels. "Party doesn't separate us," she said. "Color, gender, those sort of things don't separate us."

Gotta admit, that's pretty funny.

9. Same guy who claimed the Clintons stole from the White House.

Let his people slam all the Democratic White House workers who were leaving. Front pages everywhere.

Lots of laughs. It gave a huge boost to the right wing crazies machine.

George Bush is lots of laughs until you are the butt of the jokes or you personally suffer from his lobbying tout his frat brother on the Supreme Court, or a bomb obliterates your family in Iraq.

our so called president is stealing from all of us that's truly bad.

23. Difference between Bush and Trump is a matter degree not kind

We and the world paid heavily for the vote stealing in Florida and the machinations by the Bushes which resulted in GW Bush and Dick Cheney being installed in the White House by the 2000 Supreme Court decision-a partisan decision.

GW also "normalized" Putin as a fellow Christian.

Without that Bush family/ Republican election corruption I don't believe there would ever have been Candidate Trump in 2016. Kavanaugh has been a fixer for Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush nominated the unqualified Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court.

add: stealing two elections...by hook and crook including purging 10s of thousands of primarily African-American voters...the list goes on and on.

ugh

19. What good what it do for her to slam him?

Michelle is showing class and maturity. GHWB and Bill Clinton get along very well. A lot of former POTUS and FLOTUS get along fine. Saying something negative and demeaning about MO is something I would expect from a Trumpian, not a Democrat.

6. The ex-President's club (and first ladies/gentlemen) is very small

and can transcend all other differences.

I don't expect Trump or Melania to join this elite group. Especially after all of the Treason is exposed.

25. I was thinking about that earlier today

How the former presidents and First Ladies are cordial and work together on charitable causes and events - supporting each otherís foundations and work. I donít see Trump doing anything when he is done except his library. Can you see him setting up to work on AIDS in Africa like W? Or like the global reach of the Clinton Foundation? How will they handle a disgrace in their midst? How was Nixon treated, I forget!

26. President Clinton was very gracious and kind to Richard Nixon

At the time, I was irritated by the relationship, but I guess I have mellowed. It doesn't make me angry any more, and compared to W. Bush and the Orange Monster, Nixon was a saint.

21. Mixed feelings...

Ö GW Bush is where I draw the line. He seemed, to me, he kind of "deplorable" that should never be accepted or acceptable. Palin is another one... but I will always like Michelle Obama and kinda see what she's doing; she's trying to be positive and look out for the country. I can accept this part of Michelle.

22. What's a little torture between friends? And those pesky stolen elections.

Bush v. Gore was the beginning of the end. When you cut the voter out of the loop, you are a nation that is screwed.

Refusal to impeach that man for torture corrupted the soul of the nation.

The mindless group think of the beltway analstocracy is a affiliation that is in desperate need of a cure.

And so it goes. You don't need to be in D.C. to be trapped in the beltway sphincter.

35. I wish that the Obama administration had prosecuted him for war crimes.

It feels like a betrayal that Michelle Obama is so friendly with W, after all his dirty tricks, lies and carnage. He worked with Karl Rove to win the primary (and slandered John McCain); he was complicit in stealing the Presidential election from Al Gore, the true winner; he passed several rounds of tax cuts for people like himself; he ignored warnings about terrorist attacks prior to 9/11; he lied about Iraq and WMD, to sell the Iraq War/invasion to the American people; he destroyed our economy by starting a long, drawn out war that wasnít paid for; and other reasons I canít think of right now. Even if he is funny, Michelle doesnít have to fawn over him. Heís still a rich, privileged guy who had his life handed to him on a silver platter. It doesnít look good for Democrats to flirt with the enemy.

37. I don't love the idea of normalizing GWB, but in a way this is good for Democrats right now

It makes it easier for a non-Trumpian Republican to consider voting for a Democrat--maybe just this once--if the Bushes and the Obamas can be friends, old-fashioned Republicans can be friends with Democrats.
