Sen. Jeff Flake joined Sen. Chris Coons for a joint interview on 60 Minutes on Sunday to talk about the dramatic events that led to the Kavanaugh FBI probe.
During his sit-down with CBSs Scott Pelley, the outgoing Senator admitted that he would have never have been able to push for a probe into the Brett Kavanaugh allegations if he had planned to run for re-election.
No, not a chance, Flake said when asked if he would have asked for the probe if he wanted to keep his seat.

Well, so much for Big Man Flake! There's also a video. I tried to upload it, but alas, no dice.

(14,959 posts)ever runs in the future. If Kavanaugh goes down, the public's memory will eventually be that he was a drunk rapist who nobody should have even considered for any job never mind SCOTUS. The public might STILL come to that conclusion even if he is confirmed, and before Flake next runs for any office. And Flake's on record as being to chicken-sh*t to say so if he had had an election on the line.
Unless he really isn't running for any office ever again, this is a blunder.

(15,139 posts)If he has any Presidential ambitions, he just killed them with that comment. Party above all. Put a lying, perpetually drunk, unstable, would be rapist on the Supreme Court? Depends. If I'm running for re-election, absolutely.

(1,242 posts)How many other retiring Senators stood up at all? What about all the other Republican jackasses? Yes, it was the least Flake could do, but he still did it. His vote to move it out of committee could have been useless, as McConnell had the power to supersede the committee's non action with putting it on the floor via a rarely used rule. Keeping it in committee would keep the process in higher profile. Flake is not the biggest problem, although he helped bring it on, no doubt. I don't care what he says about it. I care that McConnell is an animal. A reptile. Don't let those Jackasses get any satisfaction that we are focusing on someone who betrays their evil agenda.

(205,237 posts)Was away this weekend and missed "60 Minutes." And if Jeff Flake really meant it, he'd knock off the "flip flopping" and admit what is readily apparent to those of us without an agenda.
