WASHINGTON/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considering a ban on flavored e-cigarettes in response to an epidemic of young people using e-cigarettes, the agencys leader said on Wednesday.
In a speech at FDA headquarters, Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said the agency would also revisit its compliance policy that extended the dates for manufacturers of flavored e-cigarettes to submit applications for premarket authorization.
We see clear signs that youth use of electronic cigarettes has reached an epidemic proportion, Gottlieb said.
Gottlieb announced a number of steps the agency planned to take as part of a broader crackdown on the sale and marketing of e-cigarettes to kids. The agency issued 12 warning letters to companies that it says have deceptive marketing labels on e-liquids. We cannot allow a whole new generation to become addicted to nicotine, he said.

(4,613 posts)Please stop trying to regulate every last thing while letting really bad things get a pass because you're in a corporation's back pocket.
FWIW, nicotine is not the problem. It's all of the other chemicals in both real and e-cigarettes that are the issue.

(2,301 posts)I've written letters, signed petitions.
I quit cigarettes and switched to vaping four years ago. I use mint and fruit flavors, and I do NOT wish to start using tobacco flavors. Oh, and I'm turning 68 this year. It's not a kid thing. If it were, there wouldn't be "birthday-cake" flavored vodka.

(10,037 posts)1.5 pack a day+ snuff habit seven years ago via vaping. It really was a miracle as I had tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to quit prior to vaping. If you are using simple flavors it might behoove you to go DIY. It's much cheaper than retail.
Smoked for 17 years and was never able to shake it until I started vaping. Been smoke-free almost two years now.
They're discussing the same kinds of crackdowns here in Canada, too. My brother in law owns a very successful vape shop, and I'd hate to see all his hard work get undone because of rash legislation pushed from behind the scenes by the tobacco companies.
They'll have my Watermelon Sour and Ross Sauce when they can pry it from my non-nicotine-stained fingers.

That's just some of them. Not one vodka website that I checked demanded that I promise to be 21. Every vape site I have ever seen (and it's most of them in Clark County, NV) won't let the viewer enter without it.
This is nothing more than tobacco companies fighting dirty. I expected more from DUers who are for it.
A question for those who claim that being near vaping makes them sick: vaping is not allowed anywhere that smoking isn't. Are you also sickened by asthma inhalers? The medium is the same (vegetable glycerin).

(2,331 posts)Haven't had a cigarette in 8 months. Vaping has helped. Looks like it is time to stock up on Vape Juice bundle packages.
Also teenagers are going to smoke and drink. It is what teenagers do. This is just going to push them back to cigarettes which might be the intent.
