Obama focuses on veterans, military at Fort Bliss, on anniversary of Iraq combat end

Source: The Washington Post

EL PASO —President Obama continued his emphasis on serving veterans and military families with a visit to Fort Bliss on Friday to announce a new executive order expanding suicide prevention and substance-abuse services for those who have served in the armed forces.

Obama appeared in Texas on the second anniversary of the end of combat in Iraq, which is not a coincidence, White House advisers said. The president has traveled the country speaking to military audiences about his decision to end that war as well as combat operations in Afghanistan. Along the way, he has promised to continue his commitment to service members, veterans and their families after they return home.

Obama spoke in a large hangar at Fort Bliss, an Army installation close to the Mexican border used for missile and artillery training and testing and home of the 1st Armored Division as well as the 32nd Army Air & Missile Defense Command.

1. All I see on MSNBC are snippets of Romney trying to appear presidential and the usual

talking heads with criticism lite. It's like giving Romney/Ryan free air time, WTF. The more they are seen on the tube the more they are given credibility. Why don't these (so called) liberal programs show the Presidents speeches and direct responses to the Republican bull shite? There's a zillion achievements of the Presidents administration that they could put out there. Come on Martin Bashir et al quit qiving RnR free advertising, give it to the President.

2. Two Reasons for that!

One, Obama is old news, Romney is new news. Sad but true. Also, Obama is really private about working with the vets. I volunteer at the local wounded warrior center, and have scene either of the Obamas fairly often. I also don't see that in any form of news except when a higher order medal is also being awarded, and that only in the local news. You know, where the kids here come from.

3. Well yes President O's sure not going to use wounded vets for politics he's way to classy for that.

I just mean his position on issues especially the economy. I used to go up to the Sepulveda Veterans Hospital in LA. with an old gent. who played piano and I played trumpet, we always had a great time too. It was very hard to see some of these men who had been flat on their backs since WWII but they liked to kid and joke with us. WWII was a war worth our involvement but not one since then has been in anyway necessary or worthwhile. It's very sad.
