A new poll has found that President Trump is as strongly disliked by the American public as former President Nixon was shortly before he resigned from office.
A new Marist College poll found that 45 percent rated Trumps job performance as poor the same percentage who said Nixon was doing poorly as president in a Harris poll, CNN reported Saturday.
Twenty percent rated Trump's job performance as excellent and another 20 percent said Trump was doing a "pretty good" job. Less than half of Republican respondents 49 percent said Trump was doing an excellent job, compared to 2 percent of Democrats surveyed.
Nixon resigned from office 44 years ago this week following the Watergate controversy. According to the 1974 Harris poll, the majority of Americans 56 percent wanted him impeached and removed from office, CNN noted.

(37,648 posts)Seriously...some self-identified Dems who maybe are not really Democrats, or got something from the Trump administration. Benefited from the big tax cut, and that's what they care about most, or whatever. They got something, and that something matters more to them than anything else. Therefore, he's doing a fine job.

(5,275 posts)Nixon was a bigot, thief, a lot of things but Trump trumps him all the way around and is incompetent on top of it all. Trump is so totally unlikeable with not one redeeming quality I can think of.

(38,419 posts)He was not some outsider who cheated his way in. He was the experienced establishment thief, bigot and crook. He was not creating some new kind of thing, he was part of the old kind of thing. Yes, a liar too, but he did know where to go to get something done even if it was crooked and exceptionally mean..
I recall his biggest lie..."I have a secret plan to end the Viet Nam War" There was no plan, and because of that lie, tens of thousands were killed.

(3,056 posts)He was an absolute bastard, but at least he understood that the law of the land was The Constitution, not his fevered imagination and the shit spewing from his mouth. He eventually did what was best for the country, which is more that Cheeto Mussolini will do.
When he quit, one of my uncles threw a block party. I live a rural area, so a block party wouldn't work, BUT the Native American reservation near us sells REAL fireworks. Whenever and however we get this bastard out of office, my friends and I will honor his memory by having a party and painting the sky!!
And I remember that "secret plan" deal. Since you do, too, we're probably somewhere in the same age area. Even my dad (who was not a Nixon supporter, but didn't quite understand our generation's anger) was infuriated by that. I can remember him yelling at the TV (which is probably where I got it!) that "...kids were dying in Nam TODAY!! Why the hell are you keeping it a secret?" My aforementioned uncle probably had to be restrained.

(21,624 posts)You'd never see this from Bitchy Mitchy, Eddie Munster or the rest of them:
Senate Minority Leader Hugh Scott, Senator Barry Goldwater, and House Minority Leader John Rhodes emerge from their famous August 7, 1974, White House meeting in which they informed Nixon he had lost the confidence of not only Congress - but of Congressional Republicans themselves.
These days Republicans only show up at the White House to pass along reserved information, or to kiss orange butt.

Done deal I am not fooled by all these blaring headlines and polls. IT WILL BE business as usual when all these shitstains are flushed back to the sewers from whence they came...
