Supreme Court nominee dishes out mac and cheese to homeless

Source: WBAL

Wednesday, July 11 2018

WASHINGTON (AP) Pausing in his pursuit of Supreme Court robes, nominee Brett Kavanaugh donned a blue apron Wednesday afternoon to help serve meals to the homeless.

The conservative appellate court judge chosen by President Donald Trump to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy stood outside Catholic Charities in downtown Washington, D.C., where he spent an hour dishing out mac and cheese to a long line of people, many of whom did not appear to recognize the newly minted nominee in a baseball cap, polo shirt and shorts.

"Want some mac?" Kavanaugh asked, as he scooped it into paper to-go boxes to accompany barbecue sandwiches, watermelon and chips.

Kavanaugh was greeted by the Rev. John Enzler, the president and CEO of Catholic Charities in Washington who has known the judge from the time he was an altar boy. Enzler, who attended the White House announcement Monday, said Kavanaugh is part of a Roman Catholic society that volunteers to serve meals a number of times a year.

1. That is good. Does he do this regularly? Or is this for the photo-op?

Of course, if he is confirmed he won't be able to do it for security reasons.

5. He might very well be a good guy

But that doesn't mean he's got the judicial philosophy America needs. But ultimately it doesn't matter. No GOP senator is voting against their supreme court nominee and we don't have the Senate.

24. There is NO CHANCE he is a good guy.

It is the cruel political stances he believes in that CAUSED this homelessness.

It's like an arsonist torching your house and then showing up with a squirt gun.

7. Good for him. He may very well be a really good guy.

But his politics and legal views make him completely unsuited for a spot on the USSC.

12. Please, Kavanaugh, let Speaker Paul Ryan help by washing dishes in the kitchen.

Who doesn't remember that wondrous day Ryan, during his campaign, asked the restaurant owner to bring forth some of her finest CLEAN pots and pans, so he could take a picture of himself pretending to wash them in the sink?

These public servants are just wonderful, aren't they?

Him then turning around and feeding the homeless is like an arsonist torching your house and then offering you a bowl of mac and cheese.

I assumed the answer was no and this was just a photo op propaganda. But his record and how he might rule when it comes to what is best for the people is what really matters.

Such a cynical, craven photo op, using desperate, hungry, homeless people as props.
