US troops plotted to kill Obama

Source: MSN UK

Four US soldiers plotted to assassinate Barack Obama and overthrow the government, a court has heard.

Prosecutors in Georgia said they formed an anarchist militia within the military.

One, private Michael Burnett, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and gang charges in the killings last December of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.

Burnett said that Roark, who had just left the army, knew of the militia group's plans and was killed because he was "a loose end."

Ga. Murder Case Uncovers Terror Plot by Soldiers

Prosecutors say a murder case against four soldiers in Georgia has revealed they formed an anarchist militia within the U.S. military with plans to overthrow the federal government.

One of the accused troops, Pfc. Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter and gang charges in the December slayings of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.

Burnett told a Long County judge that Roark, who had just left the Army, knew of the militia group's plans and was killed because he was "a loose end."

Prosecutors: U.S. Soldiers Plotted to Kill President Obama
Update (3:15 p.m.): More details are surfacing about the four soldiers accused of stockpiling assault weapons and bomb components and plotting to assassinate the president. According to the AP's Russ Bynum, the group calls itself F.E.A.R., which stands for Forever Enduring Always Ready. While authorities don't know how many members are in the group, they did accuse it of plotting some ambitious domestic terrorist plots:

The prosecutor said the militia group had big plans. It plotted to take over Fort Stewart by seizing its ammunition control point and talked of bombing the Forsyth Park fountain in nearby Savannah, she said. In Washington state, she added, the group plotted to bomb a dam and poison the state’s apple crop. Ultimately, prosecutors said, the militia’s goal was to overthrow the government and assassinate the president.
All are charged by state authorities with malice murder, felony murder, criminal gang activity, aggravated assault and using a firearm while committing a felony. A hearing for the three soldiers was scheduled Thursday.
The above photo shows U.S. Army Sgt. Anthony Peden, left, and Pvt. Isaac Aguigui, identified by prosecutors as F.E.A.R.'s leader, after appearing before a magistrate judge at the Long County Sheriffs Office in Ludowici, Georgia. As we noted earlier, the members of the anarchist militia group allegedly bought $87,000 worth of "guns and bomb-making materials" for the plot, which was uncovered following a murder investigation into the deaths of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend Tiffany York. According to prosecutors, Roark was killed after members of F.E.A.R. discovered that he knew of their plot. On Monday, 26-year-old Army Pfc. Michael Burnett plead guilty to manslaughter and illegal gang activity in connection with the murder case. He also gave testimony backing up some of the claims made by prosecutors. Bynum says that Burnett testified against Aguigui, who he said ordered the killings of Roark and his girlfriend.

Especially the Army and Air Force. This is a serious problem, when all the officers and many enlisted are right-wing nutjobs. It sounds almost like they are encouraging this type of behavior.

Sorry, anarchists are not strictly the province of the left. There is such a thing as right wing anarchist, and those fools are an example. An anarchist is anyone who feels that governments are not valid, and they are not answerable to it.

79. "Anarchist" usually designates someone on the Left. "Anti-government" is the MSM term for RW types.

Anarchist can be either or neither. Anarchists can range from Gandhian pacifists to black-clad pseudo street fighters to Sarin gas spraying nihilists. It's a catch-all label for anyone who isn't otherwise easily labeled.

85. Anarchism has an intellectual tradition that goes back through Jefferson to

Zeno of Citium , c.334–c.262 B.C., Greek philosopher, founder of Stoicism.

Socrates was a sort of anti-establishment type, but he ultimately manned up and drank the hemlock rather than be considered disrespectful to the judgement of the civic community he so often mocked. A respectful, civic-minded anarchist is a thing to be.

Both Socrates and Jefferson had what it takes to be true revolutionaries rather than just direct action operatives whose mindless violence ultimately ends up serving the state they think they hate.

112. As soon as OWS got big press, Ron Paul's #1 fan, Alex Jones rounded up the troops to join Occupy...

He said OWS was 'speaking against capitalism and they had to stop Occupy being taken over by the communist party.'

I hadn't heard of Brandon Darby but here's the Wikipedia entry. Sounds like a typical Ron Paulite:

Darby has indicated his decisions in his service as an informant against Crowder and McKay have led him to have some sleepless nights.[4] In left-wing activist communities, Darby is widely despised for his role in McKay's conviction. He has been welcomed by conservative organizations as a patriot.[8][14]

On November 12, 2011, Darby spoke alongside controversial Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio at the "Choose Liberty 2012" conference in Florida, sponsored by the Eastern Orlando Tea Party.[15]

130. The dirty tricks went a LOT deeper than that, my friend.

I can remember when the MSM tried to shine the light on that shady little prick, Kalle Lasn(creator of AdBusters), and claimed that he was the one who started it all, and they blasted this shit 24/7. Even Dave Emory, a favorite longtime alternative radio host of me, fell for some of this B.S.(and this guy is usually spot on, too.). And when an intelligent guy like Emory gets suckered, you KNOW it's bad.

Of course, what they failed to tell us is that Occupy's roots go back to the General Assembly in NYC, back in 2010, early 2011. Nope. Mother Jones had to do it......MSM failure, as usual.

64. I wonder too just where we're going to be in a few more years. I really wonder where

Kansas is going to be in a few more years after the results of the recent primaries. People just seem to love all of the "anti-" stuff, at least that's the way they vote. Apparently, at least according to many articles, Kansas is now the epicenter for the grand Teabagger America experiment. And the intended purchase of the USA by the Koch brothers and their cohorts.

Sometimes I think regionalization of the US is not such a bad idea. Some people just love the "anti-" stuff ... and often it seems at 50%. Maybe it should just be easier for all of the "anti-" to group together and run things the way they want, and let the other 1/2 of the country be as they want.

I seriously question if the country will ever get back to a majority of moderates.

11. Not only that, but...

I think there needs to be more focus on how the RW percieve things like the country and the constitution.
There have been psychological studies showing that how they think (more fear based, more inclined to the patriarchal system).
It appears to me that they are more obsessed with Merca (their pronounciation) as a place, rather than the United States of America as a bold experiment in equal opportunity. They seem unable to comprehend the basics of the constitution (even though a short civics course is required in the military) and really only grasp a misunderstanding of the second amendment.
They seem to vote only on an us vs. them mentality with no understanding of the issues (it is amazing how many RW will agree with a liberal view of the issues, but vote RW).

We're reading report after report stating that extremist "Christians" (I put it in quotes because their values and actions are the opposite of Jesus's message of love, poverty, and generosity) have infiltrated the military to the extent that many older vets no longer recognize the military with which they served. We've got white supremacists goose-stepping on base and wingnuts engraving bible verses on weapons at the factory. Need to clean some things up.

This crops up every now and again at installations around the country where aryan and other groups attempt to recruit active-duty military. The guy who shot up the Sikh Temple in Milwaukee two weeks ago was one of their converts.

The military needs to take this VERY seriously. You can't simply arm and train young men and then ignore the potential hazards.

and that perception is cultivated with distributed, plausible deniability, by means of media and others, into isolated "warrior cults" whose putative purpose is to defend and avenge a "brotherhood" of absolutely no-holds-barred, absolutely amoral warriors with the plausibly deniable encouragement of ex-military and civilian fan clubs and for some of them the promise of lucrative positions in ex-patriated war CORPORATIONS like Xe.

Their motives can be understood, maybe that's why the military has done nothing about this. Maybe they hope to win them back to sanity.

45. Something similar happened to me, but I went the other way

I voted Bush in 2000 when I was 20 years old. In 2004 I found myself in Iraq serving in the Army as an Infantry Platoon Leader and I was involved in a lot of violence over there (they don't put Infantry units in nice places). I did 13 months over there and it sure changed a lot of my mind. I went from moderate right (I agreed with most stances of the Republicans minus their religious baggage) to hard left on my thinking. The violence of war had (and continues to have) a profound impact on my beliefs. Instead of turning into a hardened killer like Rambo, I gained more of a "live and let live" attitude in life. I think the violence of combat, killing people, and losing Soldiers under my command made me a much kinder and understanding person. Maybe your family member had similar upsetting things happen to them and they just happened to turn to the rights on their beliefs?

I don't know. It's just a theory. War is very traumatic and definitely unsettled a lot of my core beliefs and I could understand it happening to someone else (even if they went the other way on their beliefs).

46. I agree with you Brainwashing

I had a friend admit he was waterboarded as a Navy Seal training to prepare him for torture

I told him NOBODY can prepare you for waterboarding they just told you that so you would obey them...but as we know when your waterboarded
the brain loses memory and so programming begins

I want this practice to stop in our Military and on our own troops
So I'm making people aware that our own troops are being tortured and programmed

thing is the Brain can be programmed ...but what they are seeing is programming breaks down after awhile

the soul can not be programmed ....

it is why there is so many suicides in the military....the soul has had enough killing

programming after time ....breaks up ....the belief is that they are expendable so that gives them the right to do anything they want to our soldiers

the Bourne movies carry a deep message....and the biggest fear is that those programmed will turn on their master

58. Interesting perspective

I never thought of it as brainwashing, but I guess that is exactly what it was.

I joined when I was 17 years old (my parents had to sign waivers because I wasn't 18) and I went to basic training between my junior and senior year of high school. When I was a senior in high school, I was attending drill at my local reserve center one weekend a month. I received an Army ROTC scholarship, got a degree in chemistry, and I volunteered to be an Infantry officer. I went to Ranger School, deployed to Iraq as and Infantry Platoon Leader, and even dreamed of heading into the direction of the Special Forces. I 100% intended to be a career military person. However, war really brought a huge dose of reality to me and has shaken a lot of my core beliefs up. I touched on that a little bit above.

My point being that I joined and submitted myself to the Army during the earlier and very formative years of my life. It seems to me that you are very vulnerable to various "alternative" viewpoints at the point in a persons life. You are, for your first time, on your own and figuring out your own identity in life.

The Army trains you to kill people and how to be excessively violent in combat. Actually the term "violence of execution" is thrown around a lot, meaning a half-assed plan executed violently and definitively will almost always decisively succeed. As a junior leader in the Army, I can vouch that leading troops in combat and in violence in easy. Ordering and demanding restraint and sensitivity in certain situations is what requires real leadership. In hind site, I wish I would have required more restraint, but that is a topic for another day. So much of me wishes I could go back and relive my time in Iraq a lot of things would have been done different and with more compassion. As a parent with with 8 more years of life experience, I would be 10x the Platoon Leader I was when I was in Iraq. The Army has no business putting young guys like me (I was 24 at the time) in positions of absolute power when they have so little life experience.

all our life we go to church and hear the stories of no killing of your brother

like that first Bible story of Cain killing Abel
ten commandment
Thou shalt not kill

but what do they teach you Kill ....so conflict of morals hits the person

there is a part of the brain that turns animalistic and lusts for violence....certain conditions trigger this Blood lust insanity

they turn that on .....War turns it on

It takes a very disciplined mature and empathetic person ...to keep that instinct under control
that is what your talking about

Second link says the whole plot was funded by Anguigui from a $500k life insurance payout he recieved when his pregnant wife died under "highly suspicious" circumstances a year ago. He may have killed her to get the money to set the whole plan in motion.

If he can do that to his own wife, killing a "friend" is nothing.

Prescott was Brown Bros. Harriman, a slightly different unit of the Wall Street Branch of the Fascist International.

Prescott Bush was right at the center of organizing the American side of the Dollars for Hitler ring (the Thyssen German Steel Trust, Union Banking Corp., NY and Schroeder Bank, London and several other international banks, along with a bunch of Abwer front companies funneling hard currency from Manhattan to Nazi Germany) run through Harriman by the Bush/Walkers during the 1930s, with the legal guidance of the Dulles Brothers at the Sullivan & Cromwell law firm.

And, then, thanks to McCarthyism, this Rightist cabal succeeded during the Cold War in taking over the U.S., which they essentially looted and turned into a police state. They've been ruling over us, in some capacity, ever since. That's how we got to be the Third World country we live in today.

135. I consider the * family to be one of the most damaging problems in this country

to me, it's how much can we make-they seem to care nothing about the american people; except when it comes to using them to gain more power or make an extra buck. some industrialists attempted a coup against FDR and gen. smedley butler spilled the beans (my hero). But those industrialists (now global) never stopped their power play. I figure the coup happened when the supreme court ruled for little boots. Gee, I even knew that he was going to get us into war. He publicly stated that daddy would have been re-elected if he only had another war, cause ya'll know all americans just love war presidents. That shows sociopathic tendencies to me, because he seemed not to care how many americans died, just as long as his family and friends could make more moolah and take more power.

Remember when they let go any general that didn't go for their maniacal plans? Any general with honor or really thought about those serving were let go. Need "yes" men for the agenda. Also, remember when we first invaded iraq, a military preacher bribing soldiers (it was really hot), that they could get in a swimming pool if they got baptized for jaysus? That kind of coercion is downright sick.

Obama should have gone in and cleaned house. Gotten rid of the "loyalists." Re-instated those generals that actually cared about the soldiers and the country; instead of some biblical agenda. That includes those positions in intelligence. Remember little boots rid himself of those that weren't loyal and questioned any agenda.

Last edited Thu Aug 30, 2012, 04:30 PM - Edit history (2)

It really goes back to the deal that was made as World War Two neared with the German sympathizers and quasi-Fascists in high places, and there were a lot of them both here and in Great Britain. Almost all of them got to stay in power (all is forgiven), if they merely agreed not to overtly sabotage the Allied War effort. Such a sweetheart deal!

Some of the most enterprising American Rightists such as the Dulles Bros. insinuated themselves into key positions (e.g., Allen Dulles at the OSS post in Bern, Switz.), where they could continue to do business and banking with their old colleagues. As the war ended, some really spectacular deals and fortunes were made!!!

After VE/VJ, the Old Rightists collectively saw to it that a new Cold War with Russia would happen, consolidating their hold, providing an excuse to monopolize power, and purged the Left.

Those who got in at the beginning became unbelievably rich and their collective and individual power is little understood.

65. You are right I fear...

I retired from federal service after 20 years of working, and often had to deal with members of the many extremist hate groups in Texas, so I am not surprised by this at all.

I have to say my first thought, after voting for President Obama, was wondering if I had just voted for his death sentence. And when he won, mixed with elation, I worried again for his safety. I continue to worry.

Extremist right wing, deranged and disturbed individuals make up these hate groups - and the groups are protected by the same laws that protect sane groups. They are far more dangerous than the teabaggers. But - and I cannot stress this enough - although teabaggers are great candidates for these extremist groups because they are already wacko haters, their prime recruiting targets are just-returned members of the military, because they are already mostly young and confused, disenfranchised and primed for war.

The closer they get to public office, the more wacko they get. That is what gets them elected...and that is what keeps them in office in this state full of wackos.

Even Austin, the most politically progressive city in Texas, is littered with extremists, and has delusional bouts of cowboy grandeur on a regular basis.

But as they are also the most musically progressive city...they usually just get high and get over it! LOL!

I'll assume that's bullshit until I see a picture of the tattoos and judge for myself.

Even if they are anarchists that shouldn't discredit anarchism as a political or philosophical attitude.

Or as a lifestyle choice. There are a lot of anarchists focused on cool community activies like gardening and recycling.

I hope people are not going to use this kind of crap as an excuse to discredit and disrupt the many peaceful and positve anarchist activities in America.

Soldiers who are in the service should do what it commanded of them - not making their own forms of policy.. They are in the armed forces as one of the instruments a government have.

Soldier silenced for testimony in Afghan killings probe
http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/10/14/griffin.afghan.murder.soldiers.investigation/index.html

Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- First, Justin Stoner blew the whistle on his platoon. Now, the Army apparently wants to silence him.

In photos obtained by CNN, Stoner sports bruises and abrasions on his back, chest and near his neck -- the marks of a beating inflicted by fellow soldiers as payback for reporting their rampant hashish use, the Army said.

At the time, those close to the investigation tell CNN, Stoner just wanted the smoking in his tent and around him to stop. So he went outside his group and reported the drug use to his superiors.

But that move, and the subsequent beating he endured for being viewed as a snitch, triggered a wide-ranging criminal investigation that has left some soldiers accused of killing innocent Afghan civilians and others accused of posing in gruesome photos with the dead or keeping body parts as war trophies.

71. I'm not so sure about that...

I might be wrong, but I don't think it was directly lowered by good ol' W. but by the pentagon guys who worked under him. Well, by virtue of position and being in charge of it all, that would make him responsible. I won't argue with that.

Geeze. I think this is the closest thing to sticking up for Jorge W. I've ever done. I probably shouldn't even post that comment, but then this sentence wouldn't make any sense!

-----

However, as a former military guy, I will say that the above statement about ignorant rednecks isn't always exactly the case. Yes, they are out there and I'm sure a certain minority of people do join so that they can commit state sanctioned murder. However, all officers have to have at least a 4 year degree and, hence, are somewhat educated and do lean a little more towards the middle/left than you might expect.

Most of the guys in the military have a heart of gold and joined because they thought they were doing a good thing. Most people (Soldiers) want to do the right thing and want to help their fellow man. Guys like me joined before September 11th because I saw what our Army was doing in Bosnia/Kosovo and I believed the Army was an instrument of good. I never immagined wars like the one I was a part of in Iraq could happen.

Having served in the Army, I have nothing bad to say about the organization itself. However, the way it has been used by our politicians and the people at the top is certainly less than admirable. The war absolutely sucked. But, if you're like me, and you can't stand killing and watching your buddies die, you better get the hell out. War is what the Army is all about.

Unfortunatley, the Army focuses on combat and "winning" military engagements. At all levels of training, combat and "violence of execution" are emphasized. Not things like nation building and respecting civilians. The biggest failure, in my opinion, on the ground in Iraq is the overemphasis of force protection over mission accomplishment and relationship building with the locals. If I was engaged or felt threatened, we shot who we thought was a threat (look at the countless stories of cars of non-combatants being fired on at impromtu traffic checkpoints).

Anyways, I'm rambling now and this has nothing to do with the original topic. I know I'm kind of biased with my thoughts and I have a hard time hearing anything negative about the Army. I can feel myself getting teary-eyed even thinking about it and I do usually over react and zero in on Army/war related threads. Just realize that I'm kind of "crazy" side of the fence and I'm probably over reacting. It just bothers me to hear an association with ignorant rednecks.

At the end of the day, I believe that we are on the same side here.

87. It's been ing with said a President inherits the army from the prior one.

Obama has had to deal with Bush's army and has done a first class job winning them over but I keep thinking about those guys posing with dead people like it's with a deer.

97. agreed

I agree with everything you say and I don't believe that posing with dead people like they are dear is at all acceptable.

However, to be judged by a group of people who have no idea what war is like and what happens to a person's mind when they are directly involved is not fair to our Soldiers.

As Soldiers, we are/were expected to fight a war and kill when necessary. Everyon grows up with what I would say is a natural aversion to killing people. Once you find yourself in a situation when you've killed a person, it really throws everything into a "tizzie". I shot and killed people and was rewarded for it! What kind of mixed signal does that throw to a person? When it is alright to kill someone, posing with them like a deer or urinating on them becomes easy to do.

I completely understand where they are coming from.

You don't shoot and kill people that you like. A lot of the conditioning (both intentional and unintentional) makes you not want to like the people that you are fighting against. The second that you revere your enemy as a person like you, you'll find it hard to deal with combat - which is exactly what happened to me.

War sucks and coming home and trying to be normal afterwards is almost impossible for some of us, but that is the topic for another thread. These are just more reasons why war should be avoided at all costs.

109. A President also inherits the DoJ from the prior one.

And although Obama inherited a highly-politicized DoJ, he could have replaced them when he took office, as Clinton did. Yet he chose not to.

I wonder why.

110. "he could have replaced them when he took office, as Clinton did. Yet he chose not to.I wonder why."

Because he wanted to be liked.

I really believe Obama didn't know what he was dealing with.

115. The Bush DoJ

prosecuted Democrats over Republicans, 85% to 12%.

Often these Democratic prosecutions would occur before close elections, creating the impression in would-be voters that the Democratic candidate was not to be trusted.

If Obama was concerned about the survival of the party he was leading, those politicized US Attorneys would have been replaced, by recess appointment if necessary.

Those politicized US Attorneys are also responsible for enforcing penalties for violations.

Do not attribute non-rationalized justifications like incompetence or the need to be liked to Obama's actions when there are rationalized justifications such as electoral survival and objective monetary incentives to be considered.

120. Wanna hear something funny?

I've heard some people claim Obama didn't have the connections because he was from outside Washington.

The "connections" are the Democratic Party which SHOULD have been fully prepared to replace EVERY administrative position with a "chomping at the bit" replacement. But they didn't,...because,....let's face it,...the Democrats aren't that organized....

70. Are they still operating under the "looser than loose" recruitment guidelines started under Bush?

I recall they threw a lot of the standards out the window and started recruiting real head cases just to keep the numbers up.

78. Had I not known Michael Roark was 19 I would've asked, "why the F is he dating a 17 year old?"

16 is the age of consent in Ga. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#Georgia)

And Thom Hartmann was commenting today about Thomas Jefferson warning about why America shouldn't have standing armies. Jefferson has said: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies." Thom wrote an article for the common dreams website, "Time To Reconsider Jefferson's Call For Universal Service", back in 2004.

That the rest of the world is going to sit back and see America get taken over by red necks. Russia just might step in while we're down along with China, and we would be sunk. Or our "friends" would help if it was that deeply rooted in a military take over.
