Education Department Shed More Than 550 Positions under Devos: Report

Source: The Hill

The Education Department cut more than 550 workers between President Trump's inauguration and April of this year, according to an Inside Higher Ed report released Wednesday.

The department, led by Betsy DeVos, said the 13 percent reduction in staff came as a result of attrition and voluntary early retirement, the publication reported.

But DeVos has made deregulation - which necessitates significant staffing - a key part of her tenure as Education Secretary. Civil rights workers, according to Inside Higher Ed, have been part of those rollbacks, despite the department's reported aims to reduce a backlog of federal complaints.

Former department staff members say the Trump administration is purposefully choosing not to fill vacant positions following months of continuous departures. The Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) have seen the most significant cutbacks since January 2017, according to the publication...more..

7. Grover Norquist's dream is coming true.

"My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub." Brilliant, Grover. Fucking brilliant. The trouble in our country is not employment, it's being able to survive on the wages those brilliant Republican created jobs provide (all without any benefits as well).

Of course Grover also said, "Government should enforce the rule of law. It should enforce contracts, it should protect people bodily from being attacked by criminals. And when the government does those things, it is facilitating liberty. When it goes beyond those things, it becomes destructive to both human happiness and human liberty." And Trump is definitely going beyond "those things", and is thumbing his nose at "the rule of law". It's just not as easy you opined, is it, Grover?

I wonder how Grover feels about "The Donald"? Grover was a big fan of the Tea Party. I wonder how he likes what it's morphed into? The party of Trump. The party of Nazis, racists, white-trash supremacists, xenophobic mouth breathers. Are those your kind of people too, Grover? Are these the rugged individualists, the "pull yourself up by the bootstraps' people you were referring to? Because half of these people don't want to work. They want their own form of welfare, so they can run around in the woods, drink beer, and "prepare" for the "end times" that will be here any day now!

This is a short primer on one of the people who brought you this Tea Party bullshit. The person who wants to shrink government so he can drown it in a bathtub. And people actually listened to this mook?
