Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) didn’t want to call special elections for two Republicans, presumably because the seats were expected to flip to Democrats in the anti-GOP political climate.

Walker was ordered to schedule the elections by Dane County Circuit Court Judge Josann Reynolds, who said the governor had a “plain and positive duty” to hold the elections. Reynolds was appointed to the bench by Walker in 2014.

Senate District 1 won’t make a measurable difference in the Senate, however, it will narrow the margin of 18 Republicans to 14 Democrats in the Senate. It will further add to the Democratic enthusiasm that has prompted the party to champion a “blue wave”

The district includes parts of Fond du Lac County, which voted for Trump by more than 14 points in 2016.

It is the 43rd seat that Democrats have flipped since Trump took office................

A court had to order Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) to call the special election because he tried to block it.

By Amanda Terkel

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker had tried to prevent Tuesday’s matchups.

Wisconsin Democrats scored a major upset victory Tuesday night, winning a state Senate seat in a district that went for Donald Trump by double digits in 2016.

Caleb Frostman defeated state Rep. Andre Jacque (R) for the open seat in District 1 that was previously held by state Sen. Frank Lasee (R), who resigned to take a job in Gov. Scott Walker’s administration. Frostman will be on the ballot again in November for the regular election.

Republicans held on to a state Assembly seat in District 42 that also held a special election Tuesday.

Although Frostman’s term is short, his win is a huge victory for the Democratic Party. Not only was the seat held by a Republican, but Trump defeated Democratic rival Hillary Clinton there by 17 points in the 2016 presidential election. Trump also won the state of Wisconsin overall. ...............................................

Laugh with me...

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker fought as hard as he could against holding special elections for open seats.

The courts forced him...

...and the result was a Trump+18 district flipping blue.

3. Makes me wonder....

How much of Trump's victory was because Democrats didn't show, thinking Hillary was a shoe-in?

5. Honestly, and this is not a slam on Hillary, she just didn't excite the casual voters...

the ones who maybe vote or maybe don't. That, and TRUMP got the rural and blue collar folks who felt left behind by the recovery, and the racist assholes to come out in droves.

The solid Democrats came out for Hillary. But, this is a purple state and that's not enough in a statewide election.

4. Andre Jacque is a special kind of a-hole. Very happy to see him go down.

Walker just might be losing his magic touch. But, we need a candidate... someone needs to emerge from the crowded field of Democratic candidates for Governor.
