FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - A judge ruled that a Florida police officer must stand trial for the fatal shooting of a stranded black motorist, saying his retelling of what happened was "unreliable and not credible." Circuit Judge Samantha Schosberg Feuer wrote that fired Palm Beach Gardens officer Nouman Raja's statements after the 2015 shooting of 31-year-old Corey Jones are not supported by an audiotape of the shooting and other physical evidence, such as the location of the bullet casings, and therefore he isn't protected by the state's "stand your ground" law.

She said Raja's trial on manslaughter and attempted murder charges should proceed.

She said she found Raja's use of deadly force, "was not objectively reasonable and not justified under the law."

Raja's attorney, Richard Lubin, said he plans to file an appeal next week, which will likely delay the trial's scheduled July start. Without going into specifics, he said he disagreed with Judge Feuer's conclusions and how she applied the law.

4. Good, but I have to question if this would be the same for someone not named Raja.

6. The police officer's name is irrelevant

Corey Jones was stranded by the side of road when his car stopped running. He was a musician at his church where his father and grandfather preached. He called family, but as there was early sermon the next day, he told them he would seek another way to get a tow. He then called the Florida State Highway Patrol assistance line.

Raja, who was in street clothes, in an unmarked white van, and displaying NO police ID, and at no time revealed he was a police officer, approached Jones, who was at that time, on the phone in his car with roadside assistance dispatch. Raja began shouting at Jones immediately (which was heard on the audio tape) and within a minute of encountering Jones, began shooting (Also picked up on audio.). Jones exited his vehicle and began to run. The medical examiner stated that Jones had been shot in the back three times.

Raja's attorney has been filing one BS motion after another after another for the last three years, each time using some different sub-text to tie up the court docket with nonsense filings to keep Raja from standing trial. The latest ruse is that Raja was "standing his ground."

This was NOT standing your ground. This was cold-blooded murder.

Raja has given numerous statments, varying incidents each time such that no statement matched another. Quite simply, he is a liar.

2. I remember this, it was local

Jones vehicle had broken down on an I-95 exit ramp and Raja came up behind him in a unmarked or non-cop looking vehicle. He approached Jones in plain clothes, something happened and Raja shot him. His story sounded like bs at the time and I'm glad there is audio.

3. I'm really glad for this, but

what I'm looking for is an end to the senseless killings. It's great there's finally some accountability here and there -- and that will help bring an end to the unjustified murders, but we need to get to the finish line on this.
