Romney: Big business is 'doing fine'

Source: AP

MINNETONKA BEACH, Minn. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says big business in the U.S. is "doing fine" in most places.

Romney's assertions resembled President Barack Obama's remarks earlier this summer that the private sector "is doing fine." Republicans pounced on Obama's comments, saying they proved he was out of touch with the nation's economy.

Speaking to donors Thursday near Minneapolis, Romney said he would focus on helping small business succeed.

Romney says large businesses succeed in part because they can better manage government regulations and because they put money in "low tax havens around the world." Romney has faced criticism from Democrats for placing some of his personal fortune in offshore accounts.

Here we have Mittens in a candid moment with his base, admitting big biz "manages" gov regs. Translation: lobbyists take care of those damn regs and write the regs themselves or eradicate them entirely. And low tax havens? Need we say more?

hire more innovators. In addition, large businesses can afford to position themselves in markets and pricing so as to squeeze out small businesses.

Small businesses have to work hard to develop good customer relationships, unique and more personalized services and products tailored specifically to the markets they serve. Generally, small businesses don't get the advantage of a large asset and capital base, and they can't weather risky periods as well as big companies.

What's more small businesses don't have the capacity to buy politicians and get laws and regulations written just for their needs.

Big businesses have a lot more advantages. The list is too long to write bout here, and Romney knows that. Again, Romney being coy and disingenuous if not an outright lying.

Is the small business the same as middle class people who have the capital to loan money to their kids to go to college or start a business. I really think that Romney is suffering from Marie Antoinette syndrome. For that matter, does anybody have a good working definition of middle class and small business?

12. "Romney: Big business is fine, helped by tax havens" - You forgot Romney's Shout Out

Romney specifically gave a shout out to off shore tax havens!

His comments echoed similar assertions about the state of big business by President Barack Obama which Romney has criticized. They're also a reminder that the GOP candidate has kept some of his personal fortune in low tax foreign accounts.

"Big business is doing fine in many places," Romney said during a campaign fundraiser Thursday. "They get the loans they need, they can deal with all the regulation. They know how to find ways to get through the tax code, save money by putting various things in the places where there are low tax havens around the world for their businesses."

Romney's assertions resembled Obama's declaration earlier this summer that the "private sector is doing fine." Romney and other Republicans pounced on the president's comments and cast them as an indication that he was out of touch with the nation's economic struggles.

Romney didn't mention Thursday that he has kept some of his personal money in offshore tax havens, including accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

My excerpt from the article does quote what Romney said about tax havens.
