NRA finally speaks on Waffle House shooting, says man who stopped it should have used a gun

Source: Think Progress

For years the National Rifle Association’s mantra has been that “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. So after a good guy without a gun bravely put an end to a deadly mass shooting at a Tennessee Waffle House on Sunday, the organization took some time to formulate a response.

On Monday, Grant Stinchfield, host for the organization’s NRATV, praised James Shaw for his heroism, but simultaneously suggested that it would have been better if he had been armed and could have shot back.

“I will say without a shadow of a doubt, that man saved countless lives,” Stinchfield said. “There would have been many people dead inside that Waffle House if it wasn’t for James Shaw.”

6. If the damn guns had been banned for good decades ago, odds are good this wouldn't have

happened.

Screw the gun organizations including the NRA with their spokespeople like this gun-loving NRA Board Member.

9. Should have been carrying a gun?

Based on the past regarding this persons ethnicity, he would have been swiss cheese when the police showed up.

15. And now a bunch of idiots will probably

go buy guns to "protect themselves" against future attacks.

So the gun manufacturers and dealers win at the expense of (in this case) four innocent people. But then again, that's exactly what the NRA is about: lobbying for gun manufacturers no matter what the results.

I think that asshole's comment is disgusting in more ways than one.

18. Let's see if I have this correct

Good (per the NRA): James Shaw opening fire on the gunman, possibly starting a firefight that would have killed many more people

Bad (per the NRA): James Shaw wrenching the gun from the shooter's Trump-like hands and throwing it behind the counter, therefore saving many lives with the least amount of additional bloodshed

REALLY bad (per the NRA): James Shaw beating the gunman to death with his own rifle before throwing it behind the counter. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy wielding the same gun like it was a baseball bat."

Having followed the excesses of the NRA for so many years, I should have known better. What a sick, trashy organization.

23. Reinking's stubborn continued respiration is no doubt inconvenient for the NRA's clients.

As is Shaw's.

They prefer that their mass shooters dispose of themselves quickly.

24. He says the gun could have prevented the manhunt

essentially admitting it was not needed as to the actual shooting.

What an outrageous suggestion - proves all they care about is selling more guns and that these occurrences are something they like, because they give them a chance to suggest more guns are the answer.

27. I wonder what kind of gun they recommend for a toothache,

I had the same thought...It is the NRA and clearly their answer to a cavity would have to be "shoot the tooth".

The only way to stop bad teeth, is a good dentist with a gun?

28. You can't reason w/ the NRA...they have a bunch of screws loose in the head and ...

are obviously interested in selling guns, and don't care about public safety, nor the rights of those numerous Americans who don't believe in carrying guns. Why are our rights to not carry or have someone walking around w/ a gun on public property that we have to respect their rights ? How do we know as 'Joe/Jill Public' that they have a carry/conceal/etc. permit?

This is garbage logic, that one needs to have a gun everywhere!! If things were so bad according to the NRA, then crap, people would be getting stabbed and killed everywhere by the thousands and thousands daily.

But this is NOT happening. Society as a whole is doing good, thank you, and yeah, we don't have to carry gun(s) all of the time, and to be honest w/ you (in my opinion), 99.99% of us don't carry guns/knives/baseball bats/etc. We don't have to. We function for the most part in society, as 'treat me like I treat you, nice is, as nice does'. Some of us do have guns but I don't think we go 'overboard' w/ it. I myself, have a small pistol for protection at home in case someone breaks in, but don't ever, ever expect to see or use. Which is fine w/ me.

I'm being hyperbolic here (I apologize in advance here), but maybe if these gun 'nuts' knew to function in society better, there probably would be less gun crimes against persons, since they didn't have to suck on the barrels of their guns as a security blanket. Basically I'm saying that these gun carrying nuts are very paranoid and insincere, and are somewhat 'nuts' already. I've seen too many of these 'macho' shows where folks are strutting around, showing off their guns and so forth, and I get nervous when I see this kind of behavior. I kind think others do too.

How many gun accidents happen at home that accidently kill family or loved ones accidently? I myself had such an incident when I was a child, thank god that no one was hurt w/ the gun in question (had blanks in it instead of real bullets).
