Trump admin announces abstinence-focused overhaul of teen pregnancy program
Source: The Hill
The Trump administration will shift federal funding aimed at reducing teen pregnancy rates to programs that teach abstinence.
The Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday the availability of grants through the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, a grant program created under President Obama that funds organizations and programs working to reduce teen pregnancy rates.
Except under Trump's HHS, the grants will be geared toward organizations that teach abstinence education to teens instead of the comprehensive sex ed approach the previous administration supported.
In a funding announcement released Friday, the administration announced two tiers of funds for the TPP program. In the first, grantees would have to follow one of two abstinence programs to receive funding.

(5,611 posts)They are obviously desperate for issues to get their base out. Given all of the retirementsand the sudden appearance of wedge issue material we can assume their internall polling must be very bad (of course though dems must still vote!)

(31,109 posts)those guilty of governing their own body will be sent.
This WILL happen if EVERYBODY here doesnt vote for ANY democrat.
All the SC can do is reverse Roe, your STATE can then KILL Your daughter or sister if they want.
THE DIRECT result of this will be more pregnancies, more abortions, and ultimately more sexually transmitted disease and death.
But hey, private server people, cant have them.

(15,805 posts)Where's the science! We're going backward with this War on Women, medieval bullshit. Policies like this hurt young women and ruin their lives by forcing them into unwanted pregnancies as a means of punishment for the crime of having premarital sex.
And lets not forget the young men who won't get condoms. They will still engage in risky unprotected sex that jeopardizes their health as well as their partners.
Thanks Trump, you probably engaged in the same behaviors, but you were rich enough to pay off the women you used.

(51,585 posts)Bannon was the ringleader of deconstructing the government. Normally the GOP wants less government as a campaign issue, but this admin goes way beyond that. Half of the State Dept is empty. We have half the staff in most depts and forget about foreign ambassadors....most of them are gone.
The Dems, if they are smart, will change the topic ASAP when the issues of abortion and guns whenever they come up during the midterm campaigns. We need to stick to affordable health care and the terrible tax scam. All voters care about these two issues.

(1,752 posts)& young adults who often just arent prepared psychologically for taking responsibility for intercourse/birth control/sexual relationships.... but somehow I dont think thats what they mean by "abstinence."
Ironically, its these far right /overly religious people that are CAUSING a lot of unwanted pregnancies (and abortion) by instilling fear and ambivalence instead of responsibility and acceptance of how the Good Lord created us (ie as sexual beings.).

....Democrats argue the changes are ideological and will jeopardize record-low teen pregnancy rates in the U.S.
Both Democrats and Republicans have supported investing in evidence-based approaches to preventing teen pregnancy, so it is disappointing and deeply concerning that the Trump-Pence Administration is doing everything it can to undermine these investments in ways that take us in the absolutely wrong direction on this issue," said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), ranking member of the Senate Health Committee. "These changes show yet again that the Trump-Pence Administrations priority is imposing its extreme, backwards ideology, no matter what that means for women, families, and communities.
