Capital Dems Join Student Gun Protests

Source: The HILL

.
Democratic leaders in the House and Senate exited the Capitol on Wednesday to march with and speak to students protesting gun violence on the one-month anniversary of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting.

Senior members of Democratic leadership joined other lawmakers from the House and Senate on Capitol Hill as thousands of students marched while others around the country walked out of classes or staged other protests.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) both spoke to the demonstrators, while other Democrats such as Sen. Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), Rep. Ted Deutch (Fla.) and Rep. Keith Ellison (Minn.) were spotted in the crowd.

"[We are] representing in Congress the students who have sacrificed so much, spoken so eloquently, commanded the attention of the nation," Pelosi told the crowd. "We are all moved by your eloquence and fearless insistence on action to prevent gun violence."

4. What if you knew her and found her dead on the ground? How can you run when you know?

Notice the absence of the cowardly Republicans, still beholden to the NRA/gunmakers who are responsible for the deaths of so many innocent people.

7. great...

But I have a few problems with the whole thing.

The schools are sanctioning and encouraging the walkouts. That's great but in the end it just means the kids are doing what the schools are telling them to. If they seriously want change, they're going to have to break rules and take risks. I think they should take a page from the WV teachers strike: walk out, don't stop being out until there is actually something done to protect your lives.

What happens if they have another walkout on an unsanctioned day?

Blah blah I am a dem and vote dem and consider repubs the epitome of evil... however, how is speaking any better than "thoughts and prayers"? and what do I expect them to do? Hold up business until there is serious legislation that will actually prevent school shootings. Can there be a more important issue short of getting rid of trump?

I have two kids. One is school age, she's home schooled for a variety of reasons but one of them is certainly that our nations schools are not safe.

You guys can continue to be cheerleaders but this will go the same way as always. The kids will go back to school because they don't want to screw up their futures. The politicians will go back to bickering. Parents will go back to their lives still filled with worry. And more kids will get killed.
