GOP DISASTER IN Deep Red PA

LIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa.― Democrat Conor Lamb held a slight vote lead over Republican state Rep. Rick Saccone late Tuesday with 99 percent of precincts reporting — a result that will likely end in a recount.

The Associated Press said it was not declaring a winner on Tuesday because the race is too close to call.

There is no automatic recount on the congressional district level in Pennsylvania, according to state law. Candidates can, however, petition for a recount within five days after counties complete their vote computations.

“I would rather be in Lamb’s shoes right now,” former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) said late Tuesday on CNN.

Yet, win or lose, Tuesday’s result represents massive progress for the Democratic Party. It reflects the heightened enthusiasm of the party’s liberal base ahead of the 2018 congressional midterms, and it also signals dissatisfaction of many voters with President Donald Trump. The commander in chief carried the district by nearly 20 percentage points in the 2016 election.

2. Too Many Dumb Fuck Pennsylvanians. Should Have Been Democratic Landslide.

Those stupid fuckers deserve all the misery they get. And if they are poor or not working then I don't care if they starve. I am just so sick of these bigoted racists. And union members who voted for Trump need to be reduced to minimum wage. I really do hate those pricks. Sorry but what is happening under Trump will only get worse.

15. it's weird that LBJ was such a... difficult person

And goodness knows he didn't always make the best decisions.

But he was smart enough to put his finger right on the root of the problem that has been plaguing our country for decades.

7. Win or lose, the turnout for a Democratic candidate is AWESOME! And proof that people might be

getting it: ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

11. Awesome either way, yes, but a WIN would be spectacular!

Scary thin margin of 579 votes at the moment. Absentees counted in Westmoreland reduced the margin (the county went 57% for Saccone, so that's not surprising). There are perhaps a couple thousand absentees to be counted in Washington County (I can't find report of number of outstanding there, but the county went 53% for Saccone, so the margin will be reduced some when those absentees are reported)... and I can't find any reports on number of provisionals uncounted in the district.... eek!

A real nail biter that will take some time to resolve.

14. There are no automatic recounts

But there are provisions to petition for a recount.

My question is, without paper ballots, what are they going to recount?

17. The machines do produce some kind of a tally.

I am not sure what equipment they have over there but here in Philly, our machines do print out some sort of tally sheet (I have seen it) as there is no automatic "internet" transfer of data. Plus we have to sign a sheet in a binder with our name (that includes a copy of our signature), and poll workers assign the voter a number on a tally sheet and on index cards - so you verify total number of voters.

I expect a "recount" would be to make sure all of a precinct's machines are functioning correctly, produces a tally that jibes with the number of verified voters, and then that number is included in the final precinct tally. They would probably do a recount of the absentee ballots as well, which ARE paper ballots that get mailed in. They would also need to include any provisional ballots that have been resolved in the voter's favor by a judge of election.

On MSNBC last night, Brian Williams talked to the Washington County elections official and she mentioned that there were military ballots that can come in as late as March 20th (I think she estimated 14 that were due).
