A California teacher is believed to have accidentally fired his weapon in a classroom today.

Seaside police officers were summoned to Seaside High School Tuesday after the teacher, who was teaching a public safety class, discharged the weapon, police said in a statement.

Officials said one student was injured either by a bullet fragment or ceiling debris and transported to a local hospital by his parent for treatment. No one was seriously injured.

The teacher involved was identified by police as Dennis Alexander, who is a reserve police officer for the City of Sand City as well.

3. So, a "trained" reserve cop, "who was teaching a public safety class"...

...endangers the safety of his students - and inflicts a "non-serious" injury on one student - by somehow discharging his weapon in the classroom.

Does this teacher qualify for the Twitler Bonus Payments for armed teachers?

6. I believe the injured student would have to be a person of color for the bonus to kick in

Next we'll have to have teachers with guns with body cameras...

9. Oh, I see. I wonder if it's on a sliding scale?...

...the darker the skin, the higher the bonus!

And if Teachers are Armed - with or without body cameras - we'll end up with a "reality show" about teachers with guns.

Thanks for your reply, FG.

4. Note, this was a reserve police officer, someone that gets lots of training to handle guns

Just wait until lesser experienced teaches start playing Rambo at class.

5. This is Why Teachers Need Firearm Training

Or something stupid like that. Maybe an entire GOP fundraising email. The depth of the NRA ignorance has not yet reached bottom.

13. If that isn't the perfect example of why teachers

shouldn't carry guns then I don't know what is.

14. For crying out loud

Why would an instructor need to have a loaded firearm inside the classroom? Isn't there a gun safety ciriculum that wouldn't need to use "loaded" firearms around children? Are the children going for target practice later in the program?

15. People who are eager & willing to carry their gun around in public

Are the exact kind of people who should not have a gun to carry around.

16. People would never allow a teacher to have a loaded gun somewhere easy to retrieve....

So if the next idiot comes in to shoot at kids they would have to tell them WAIT while I get my gun out of the gun safe and load it. How ridiculous.........

18. Yep. There's truly no such thing as an "accidental discharge".

If your booger picker touches the trigger before you've found your target and are committed to shoot, that's called negligence.

And if he was following all four rules of gun safety, the booger picker wouldn't have been on the trigger.
