The Latest: L.L. Bean raises age to 21 to buy rifles
Source: ABC News/AP
Outdoor retailer L.L. Bean will no longer sell rifles to anyone under 21.
The company joined retail heavyweights Walmart and Dick's Sporting Goods in changing policies in the wake of the Florida school massacre.
L.L. Bean said in a statement late Thursday that it will no longer sell guns or ammunition to anyone under the age of 21.
Company spokeswoman Carolyn Beem says L.L. Bean only sells firearms at its flagship store in Maine and only guns specific to hunting and target shooting.

(10,156 posts)I thought it was just clothes itself. But I don't hunt but I enjoy fishing and camping. So might have to check them out when another camping trip comes up.

(7,220 posts)In many states, such as Oregon where I live, you have to purchase hard alcohol at specially sanctioned, strictly regulated liquor stores. Apparently guns can be had at the corner mini Mart for Christ sake

(128,521 posts)I figured they were only selling guns in brick & mortar stores - and in this case, they are only sold in their flagship store because no guns are offered in their catalogs (although they have cases/bags for them as well as safes for them).

(128,521 posts)as they were very much tied to selling apparel and gear for outdoors and not for posing in. They even sell fishing boats.
Have been a customer for over 45 years and still have some of their canvas bags that are are 35-some years old and not a stitch out of place even after major use. Bought some replacement winter boots from them a couple years ago and have a closetful of turtle necks and polo shirts (mostly "Double L" Polo) from them!

(20,867 posts)I have been an L.L. Bean customer for years. I never knew they sold GUNS.
I think I will start shopping elsewhere. The quality of the items they sell has taken a huge dump anyway.
Buh bye Bean!

(24,324 posts)WHY, oh why didn't all these corporate 'human beings' think of this on their own before?-- Or do SOMETHING on their own because they knew there was 'a problem' with people being shot with guns???
But, oh no.... gotta wait for the bus to start rollin', then jump on.

(12,018 posts)I'm surprised that anyone's surprised they sell hunting rifles. They don't sell assault rifles because they are useless for hunting.
