PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The Trump administration is once again calling for the complete elimination of a heating assistance program that helps to keep the homes of low-income families warm. And once again, program supporters are vowing to fight it.

The administration is using the same arguments from a year ago when it tried to abolish the program, saying it’s rife with fraud and that no one would be left freezing if the program goes away.

“These arguments are very misleading and wrong,” said Mark Wolfe, director of the National Energy Assistance Directors’ Association in Washington, D.C.

The program, known as LIHEAP — Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program — helps families pay their heating bills primarily in the form of a grant that’s sent directly to utility companies or heating fuel vendors.

15. We have them where I live. They're the same meters. You prepay at the office or online.

Somehow the electric co. keeps up with it. They text you your balance every day. I know a couple people who use the service. The fee per kilowatt is the same as if you were. regularly billed customer. Most who use it are people who either cant come up with the initial deposit or have a shitty history with the utility.

Of course, other areas may use a different type of meter, but I dont know why they would

They might have a program like where I live as to where they can't shut you off from Nov 1 through about mid March--this is with electricity and natural gas. THEN they can come out and shut you off in a second on that date,and they WILL.

But we've had blizzards here in April so yeah March 15th doesn't mean spring and 75 degree days like that POS is thinking. Also if you have a gas fired water heater your going to be taking some really cold showers.
