Trump touts GOP gains in poll showing steady Dem lead

Source: The Hill

President Trump on Sunday touted recent Republican gains in a generic congressional ballot, though he appeared to cite a poll that showed the GOP trailing Democrats by 3 points.

Trump appeared to be referring to a poll released last week by McLaughlin & Associates that shows Democrats with a 3 percentage point lead on Republicans on a 2018 generic ballot for Congress. The polling firmís January poll showed a similar result, with 45 percent of those surveyed favoring Democrats, compared to 42 percent who chose Republicans.

Most polling shows Republicans trailing Democrats in a generic congressional vote. A Real Clear Politics average of polls shows Democrats ahead by nearly 7 points.

Republicans retook the lead on the generic ballot last week in a Politico-Morning Consult poll, which showed 39 percent of likely voters would support a GOP candidate compared to 38 percent who would support a Democrat. Another 23 percent in that poll are undecided.

2. 3% isn't much. Esp not in this environment. I hope the poll is wrong.

We ARE seeing election results that go against a mere 3% lead (which is w/in the margin of error, probably).

3. Perhaps it needs to get a lot worse before it can get better.

But if we hang in there people will eventually realize what a monster he is.

5. The lead will NOT hold if we insist on reducing our message to "Stop Trump"

And that's what it look's like we're keeping it to right now.

We equally need to be FOR something that's truly different.

It's not possible to flip the House by default.

7. That is what works at midterms...our message is fine. We need to run on healthcare and maybe

gun control...very interesting the results out of Virginia. When I say healthcare, I don't mean single payer...let's not give the GOP an opening to attack ....run on fixing the ACA.
