Sen. Kamala Harris endorsing Gavin Newsom for governor

Source: Los Angeles Times

Sen. Kamala Harris plans to endorse Gavin Newsom in the California governor’s race Friday, according to a Newsom campaign official.

The move is not surprising — the two Democratic politicians share the same political advisors, began their careers in San Francisco city politics and have known one another for more than two decades.

They each got their start in politics thanks to former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, who appointed them to political positions.

Newsom was mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. Harris was elected district attorney for the same years. In 2010, Newsom was elected lieutenant governor and Harris was elected attorney general.

...you forfeit that state's electoral votes.

It's in the Constitution, IIRC.

I was clarifying the point that poster was making when they said "it'll never happen". That poster was explaining why Kamala and Gavin can't be a "dream ticket".

Does it make sense now?

I'd be a damned sight happier if she wasn't a proponent of Civil Asset Forfeiture, but seems to go along with the AG job even in heavily blue states, hopefully she comes around. Newsome is as slick as they come, but that's the nature of the game in politics, he was a pretty good mayor of SF.

I'm supporting Gavin for Governor. I like him but I don't think he is a great Presidential candidate. We'll see how he governs California first. Hopefully, he has matured and become better at governing.

And would prefer Newsom to prep for Feinstein’s Senate seat when she departs the stage. I think he would be better suited for the Senate than Villaraigosa, who would probably run for the seat when DiFi is out of the picture if he loses the governor’s race.
