GUANTANAMO BAY NAVY BASE, CUBA - The Pentagon wants $69 million to replace the Top Secret prison where the accused 9/11 mastermind, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, and 14 other former CIA captives are kept.

The funding request, included in a massive 2019 Department of Defense budget package released Monday, warns that the current prison, Camp 7, is at risk of mechanical, electrical and secure-communications failure, which would be risky to the U.S. Army guards who work there.

Under the proposal, the “maximum-security detention facility” should last for 40 years and include a confidential, “legal visitation area.”

The construction proposal does not indicate how many cells the new prison would hold but stated, without explanation, that the facility “will be available for use by other components.”

1. That might just be the scariest

thing I've read all day, Don. Of the Pentagon is going to sink that much money in that hole they must be preparing for an influx of prisoners.

2. We sure as hell can't afford this if the Treasury is going broke

In one breath they tell us how broke we are, and in another they tell us they want to rebuild a completely unnecessary prison that's not even on American soil.

Oh but they are going to gut Medicare and Social Security, you can bet on that. Fuck these guys!

4. Due process is only for Republicans and white folk. That the federal justice system fears these

15 people is a failure of will and morality. And America's shame.

Put them on trial, prove the charges, do the sentence in federal max prison. No idea what the propaganda line is for why not trust the already in place for two hundred year old system.

5. The DoD and MIC will bleed this country dry if given the chance

They are already well on their way and this shit has got to stop.

You could fund just about every domestic program just with their obscene waste and our security posture would not suffer one iota.

10. At 4.6 million per year per prisoner

We could just turn them lose offer to give them each a million a year to behave and and come out way ahead.
