The nation's top spy says Russia will attempt to undermine the 2018 midterm elections

The U.S. government’s top intelligence official said on Tuesday he expects Russia to continue using propaganda, false personas and other tactics to undermine the upcoming elections.

“There should be no doubt that Russia perceives its past efforts” to disrupt the 2016 presidential campaign “as a success,” and it “views the 2018 midterm elections” as another opportunity to conduct an attack, said Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats.

Coats also called on lawmakers to take actions to shrink the size of the national debt, which he said “represents a dire threat to our economic and national security.” Coats said he was concerned by a “fractious” partisan environment on Capitol Hill that “is threatening our ability to properly defend our nation.”

His remarks came at the beginning of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s annual hearing on worldwide threats to national security. His assessment was echoed by all five other intelligence agency heads present at the hearing, including CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who two weeks ago stated publicly he had “every expectation” that Russia will try to influence the coming elections.

2. So if there is a blue wave repubs will think it's due to russians.

And if repubs win by suspiciusly close margins which don't match exit polling, well, then we outsmarted the russians, I guess.

3. It's A Win-Win For The Repugs.....

If the Dems win and take back the House and/or Senate - it will be because the Russians interfered with the election.

If the Repugs retain their power base - it will be because the Russians interfered with the election - but they won't say that this was the case.

They'll have a position on each side of this.

5. Everyone here knew, in 2016, when Trump said the elections were rigged

that he was going to rig them! I saw that comment many, many times. Everyone knew. It wasn't being cynical, it wasn't being skeptical, it wasn't worse case scenario. It was a keen reading of projection, of pointing the finger elsewhere to distract from oneself doing the exact same thing!

Why is it the public has not figured this out yet? What can we do to motivate the government to stop this? We can't do anything. We have no government in the sense of one that defends national sovereignty. We have a fascist power that operates for its own advantage.
