Trump Wants To Give Ryan Zinke The Power To Approve Pipelines In National Parks

Source: HuffPo

The infrastructure plan unveiled Monday by President Donald Trump would give Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke the unilateral power to greenlight construction of pipelines through national parks — one of the many proposals in the document that has environmentalists seething.

Currently, building an oil or gas pipeline on land administered by the National Park Service requires an act of Congress. The administration sees that as a burden to economic growth and is looking to make the process as simple as installing electric lines, communication facilities or water infrastructure.

“Obtaining congressional approval for each pipeline crossing and facilities necessary for the production of energy is time consuming and delays construction,” the infrastructure plan stated.

The White House says that granting the secretary of the Interior Department the power to approve rights of way for pipelines and other energy production infrastructure on Park Service land “would reduce the delays and uncertainties caused by requiring congressional approval.”

1. That just means that the "infrastructure plan" ....

is DOA. He has no concept of how a democracy works. And he doesn't care.

2. Thanks to the reporter who noticed this. Sounds like a fight worth fighting.

If they want to change the law, let them try.

11. Is anyone in the Republican controlled Congress......

going to stop them from doing this? Probably not. Right now the GOP is steamrolling over any law that stands in the way of their capitalistic "utopia". Laws are for Democrats. Imagine if Obama had tried something like this with a Democratic Congress to work with. The GOP would have screamed bloody murder, and the media would have been right there to scream with them.

5. He's probably NEVER been to a National Park since they don't have

golf courses or porn stars or McDonalds. Just fuck him and everyone who voted for him.

7. This will never fly even with the Republiscums.

Congress would never give up their power. Why? They'd lose the ability to horse-trade for what they want in return for approving new pipelines. Trumpenstein and Zinke are both idiots to even suggest this change.

10. Once again, the emphasis is on oil production over all other kinds of energy production

"Burdensome to economic growth" is their universal excuse for everything bad this administration does. Never "improve the quality of life for all Americans" or "preserve for future generations." U.S. resources serve only one purpose, and that is to make rich people richer. Anything that reduces profits is bad. The "free market" means there are no restrictions on how you make a profit.

Profit in and of itself is not a bad thing--that's how capitalism works--but achieving it at all costs is, IMO.

For example, that's the big difference between how the Dems and Repukes view the military. The Dems see using the military as defending our country and those of our allies; the GOPers view the military's primary as to "protect American interests" (which they define as corporate assets) overseas. Bush used to use this term a lot when he was lauding our military.

12. I am wondering if the States

could purchase something like 20 meters of land that would surround a National Park and declare this "ring" a state park and then deny any pipeline projects that would cross the state park land?

Probably silly... but I wonder.
