ICE Set To Deport Undocumented Father Whose 5-Year-Old Son Is Battling Cancer

The agency chose not to grant the Arizonan another stay despite his child’s leukemia.

By Sarah Ruiz-Grossman

Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to deport an undocumented man from Mexico whose child is battling cancer.

On Thursday, ICE denied an extension to remain in the U.S. for 30-year-old Jesus Berrones, who lives in Arizona with his pregnant wife and five children. The immigration agency ordered Berrones to appear on Monday to be deported, according to his lawyer Garrett Wilkes.

Berrones has been living in the U.S. since he was 1½, when his parents brought him here in 1989, according to his wife, Sonia. In 2006, at age 19, Berrones was caught driving with a fake license and deported to Mexico. He then twice re-entered the country unlawfully to rejoin his family.

In 2016, ICE granted Berrones a stay of removal based on his son’s illness. Even when it has grounds for deportation, the agency can use its discretion to grant stays and has commonly done so in the case of individuals caring for a sick child.

Now he'll be forced to live in a country he scarcely knows while his child battles leukemia. This is just straight up fucking evil.

His wife will probably have to go on food stamps with the loss of his income to care for those 5 kids. Even if you don't care about the sheer human pain deporting this man will cause to at least 7 people (6 of which are U.S. citizens), what about the cost to taxpayers?

Just goes to show Republicans don't give a shit about deficits or needlessly spending tax money. They just want to pursue ethnic cleansing in America. It's all about hate.

Illegitimate leader = check
Detention camps (private prisons for profit) = check
Brown Shirts (trump supporters) = check
Gestapo (papers please) = check

I guess he meant his love of power to screw over people. That would fit with his pattern -- the only "love" Trump recognizes is that which he perceives is directed toward him and him alone.

Let's just start calling ICE by the name they aspire to: Schutzstaffel.

The abomination in our White House, with full cooperation of religious extremists and greedy oligarchs within Congress and without, is transforming our country into a vicious, heartless, isolated banana republic.
