A White House speechwriter resigned Friday after his former wife claimed that he was violent and emotionally abusive during their turbulent two-and-a-half-year marriage allegations that he vehemently denied, saying she was the one who victimized him.

The abrupt departure of David Sorensen, a speechwriter who worked closely with senior policy adviser Stephen Miller, came as The Washington Post was preparing a story about abuse claims by his ex-wife, Jessica Corbett. Corbett told The Post that she reported his behavior to the FBI last fall as the bureau was conducting a background check of Sorensen.

White House officials said they learned of the accusations by Sorensen's wife Thursday night, before The Post's inquiries. We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today, spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement Friday evening.

In a text message to The Post, Sorensen said he stepped down because he didn't want the White House to have to deal with this distraction. It should be able to focus on continuing President Trumps historic accomplishments for the American People, he texted.

A second White House aide has resigned amid past domestic abuse allegations, which he denies

The abrupt departure of speechwriter David Sorensen comes after his former wife claimed that he was violent and emotionally abusive during their turbulent two-and-a-half-year marriage allegations that he vehemently denied. Rather, Sorensen said he was the victim of domestic violence in their marriage.

Sorensen's resignation comes two days after another administration official, staff secretary Rob Porter, departed after two ex-wives said that he physically abused them.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

3. "We certainly wish him well..

....It's obviously a very tough time for him. He did a very good job while he was in the White House. We hope that he will have a wonderful career."

6. God, another one of trump's "best people" hires.

This White House is a collection of liars, nazis, white supremacists, sexual abusers, wife beaters, and Russian conspiracists.

Get them all out.

18. K&R. LOL, they're collectively abusing the entire nation.

I think Trump (R-Hell) will go down in history as the biggest cause of domestic and other social issues in our history. He and his Repug colleagues (and right-wing media) have cause more division and turmoil in our society than it's even seen.

I fear it's going to take a hell of a lot more than a few trips to counseling to cure this nation-wide disease.

........ .............

12. What I'm trying to wrap my mind around is...

Trump has historical accomplishments??? Pray tell, what are they? Is it the fact that he's had more administrative people quit on him than any other president?

In reality, that's the only people that would work for him - people who have no ethics or moral compass.
