GOP reps demand release of 'shocking' surveillance memo
Source: The Hill
Speculation about the memo and what it might say exploded on social media Thursday night under the hashtag #releasethedocuments. Conservative firebrand Sean Hannity kicked off his Thursday night Fox News show with a message directly to special counsel Robert MuellerYour witch hunt is now over, Hannity said. Time to close the doors.
Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) said the memo contains widespread evidence of FISA abuse. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said the report raises serious questions about the upper echelon of the Obama DOJ and Comey FBI as it relates to the so-called collusion investigation.
In a statement, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, called the report a profoundly misleading set of talking points drafted by Republican staff attacking the FBI and its handling of the investigation." "Rife with factual inaccuracies and referencing highly classified materials that most Republican Intelligence Committee members were forced to acknowledge they had never read, this is meant only to give Republican House members a distorted view of the FBI," Schiff said. "This may help carry White House water, but it is a deep disservice to our law enforcement professionals."

(10,775 posts)... which he can just go on Fox and spew at any time -- no need to "release the memo" but he thinks it sounds more convincing if he's "forced" to release an "official memo." Like he thought his little one-act play in the White House driveway would be more convincing than just going on a Sunday show and spewing nonsense.

If it's a memo from the fisa court, that's different, but if it were real, and scandalous, they would have released it already.
All it takes is trump saying to do it. That's all. No review. The president is the ultimate authority on what is classified.

The fact real patriots in the FBI, DOJ and the Obama administration were onto them proves nothing other than the crooks were easy to spot.
This will go nowhere and by Monday will not even be worth a mention in the news.
Ignore these idiots.

(7,533 posts)They know more indictments are coming. The indictments will be made public, likely later this year. There will be state indictments handed down in New York and New Jersey as well as in other jurisdictions abroad. There will be calls to impeach Trump. This is to give Rethugs in Congress (any that haven't been thrown out on their ear at mid-term elections) cover when they refuse to impeach Trump (and they will, bet on it).

...........Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) spearheaded the effort this week to allow lawmakers to view a top-secret report compiled by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.).
Scores of Republicans have since viewed the document in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility on Capitol Hill. They left expressing shock, saying the special counsel investigation into whether Trumps campaign officials had improper contacts with Russia is based on politically motivated actions at the highest level of law enforcement.
House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) called the memo shocking.
Im here to tell all of a America tonight that Im shocked to read exactly what has taken place, Meadows (R-N.C.) said in a speech on the House floor.
I thought it could never happen in a country that loves freedom and democracy like this country. It is time that we become transparent with all of this, and Im calling on our leadership to make this available so all Americans can judge for themselves.
Meadows and his allies asked GOP leaders in the House to declassify the report as part of a short-term spending bill the House passed late Thursday night. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he wanted to follow House rules on the matter and deferred to Nunes and the Intelligence Committee.
Nunes could call for a vote to release the report on his panel. If a majority on the committee agrees to declassify the report, the executive branch would then need to sign-off to make it public, said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), another Freedom Caucus member.

Right-wing demand to #ReleaseTheMemo endorsed by Russian bots, trolls
by KEN DILANIAN and MIKE MEMOLI
WASHINGTON The latest attempt by some Republicans in Congress to discredit the Trump-Russia investigation has been embraced by Russian bots and trolls on social media.
At issue is a classified memo written by House GOP staffers that purports to describe abuses in FBI surveillance practices, but has been denounced by Democratic lawmakers as deeply misleading.
House Republicans have described the revelations in the memo as "worse than Watergate," and are demanding its release. The story is getting major coverage by right-leaning news organizations, including Fox News, Breitbart, the Washington Examiner and the Daily Caller.
The Republican message is being amplified by Russian propagandists, according to independent experts.

"#Releasethememo" is now the top trending hashtag among Russian bots and trolls on Twitter and other platforms, according to the German Marshall Fund's "Hamilton 68" website, which tracks Russian influence campaigns.
