White House denies Trump's Pennsylvania trip is for Saccone campaign

Source: The Hill

The White House denied that President Trump's Thursday trip to Pennsylvania is for political purposes, hours after Trump tweeted that he's headed to the state "in order to" support the GOP candidate running in a special election there.

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a Thursday morning statement pushing back at questions about the nature of the trip that were sparked by the president's tweet.

"The president is enthusiastic about today's trip to Pittsburgh, Penn., to discuss the incredible successes his tax plan is already achieving for the American people," she said.

"While the President has made clear his support for Republican candidates throughout the country, including in Pennsylvania, the purpose of today's visit is to promote the President's successful agenda especially on taxes," the statement said.

Well is he going to play fucking golf...................with a orange ball, so that he can see it in the snow, nope this asshole is going to make money off this trip.....................

"While taxpayers are on the hook to pay for official White House trips, political parties have to reimburse the White House for any campaign travel. That's easy when the president takes a trip solely to campaign—the party just reimburses the cost of the trip. But when the president mixes an official event with a political event, like a fundraiser, only the portion of the trip related to politics needs to be reimbursed.

That calculation is more difficult here, since there is no explicit campaign or political event. But while Trump's tweet appears to link the trip to political motivations, Sanders's statement suggests that the White House will not seek reimbursement for the trip."

8. Eek! That means he'll eventually float west to Missouri and us...hopefully the raft will

race by going too fast for him to get off! If we're lucky perhaps he'll float all the way to the Gulf of Mexico and before you know it, he's gone!

12. I had coworkers and a boss from there and visited a number of times.

Too hilly for me - especially in winter with the snow and ice!

ETA - if you expand, then I won't know it's you!

15. The RNC gets the use of Air Force One and pays only the cost of an airline seat for the same trip.

I'm not even sure it's a First Class ticket. Bush used to do this all the time--find some bullshit reason to go somewhere, say L.A., to give an award like "Education Inspiration Achievement Award" and then head out afterward to a multi-million dollar fund raiser at some Beverly Hills GOP fat cat's house.

As an aside, each place the president goes requires assistance of local law enforcement to provide security, often at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars in overtime. For a small community, that can be budget busting.

As a second aside, during Bush's reelection stops in Las Cruces, NM, the aircraft they used (not the 747) as Air Force One was too heavy for the runway and taxiways and tore them up. When the city tried to get reimbursed for the damages...well, I'll leave that one to your imagination.

He can't show his putrid unpopular face so he's masquerading as president for the day.

Hopefully there will be McDonald's at several points en route!

16. Rince Priebus charge: Obama misused government funds by mixing campaigning with official WH travel.

Reince Priebus, as RNC chair, filed a formal complaint with the GAO charging that Obama misused government funds by mixing campaigning with official WH travel. Today Trump openly tweeted he was doing it.

17. Is the RNC picking up some of the tab now that Trump says the trip is for political purposes?

This is supposed to be an official event. Is the RNC picking up some of the tab now that Trump says he’s making the trip for political purposes?

Mexico is paying for it
