Feds planning massive Northern California immigration sweep to strike against sanctuary laws

Source: SFGATE

U.S. immigration officials have begun preparing for a major sweep in San Francisco and other Northern California cities in which federal officers would look to arrest more than 1,500 undocumented people while sending a message that immigration policy will be enforced in the sanctuary state, according to a source familiar with the operation. Officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, declined to comment Tuesday on plans for the operation.

The campaign, centered in the Bay Area, could happen within weeks, and is expected to become the biggest enforcement action of its kind under President Trump, said the source, who requested anonymity because the plans have not been made public.

Trump has expressed frustration that sanctuary laws which seek to protect immigrants and persuade them not to live in the shadows by restricting cooperation between local and federal authorities get in the way of his goal of tightening immigration.

The operation would go after people who have been identified as targets for deportation, including those who have been served with final deportation orders and those with criminal histories, the source said. The number could tick up if officers come across other undocumented immigrants in the course of their actions and make what are known as collateral arrests.

12. As of now, I would love to cut their pensions.

Then we can tell the GOP, see...we Democrats did something to cut the deficit.

At the same time, it would send a message to these thugs that they will pay a price
for going along with Conman's racist schemes.

14. I'm grateful to the ICE for showing us how quickly certain people devolve to pure Nazidom.

So Lord of the Flies. So primal. So Ugly American.

All the bitey bugs under the rock are proudly standing up. Where's my spray --

3. So are they targeting Russian money launderers?

I didn't think so. That kind of infiltration is just fine with the Trump administration.

See how they play one game to cover up the other?

5. This is a big problem, guys...

...the federal government literally making war with states that are opposed to federal policy. Exacting retribution against one state, but not another, is exactly the type of tyranny that leads to severe civil conflict - possibly violent. And, they're taking it out on undocumented immigrants in order to harm legal residents. This is fucked up six ways from Fresno.

Californians must sweep out any and all Republicans from its congressional delegation and make a statement of its own.

6. So can CA law enforcement

arrest ICE agents for violating CA law? Can CALE also make every ICE agent identify themselves, show their authorizations, and make ICE validate every arrest they make? And maybe confiscate ICE gear if they are found to be in violation of CA laws? Hand out parking tickets, tow away the ICE vehicles. Check for vehicle safety inspections. Speeding tickets. Check the records for every ICE agent on the spot to make sure they are not wanted for something. Check for proper ownership of firearms. Etc.

My two cents is NOCA is awful close to Jerry Brown'a neck of the woods, and he does not like the feds that much right now. He has a lot of power in his hands and he can make life really miserable for ICE and Sessions if they choose to confront the state... IOW, Sessions and ICE better not anger the CA Bear.

16. If CA law enforcement interferes with ICE

or any other Federal law enforcement agency they can and probably will be arrested as well as whoever gave the CA law enforcements orders to interfere with ICE.

Besides, the rank & file of CA law enforcement probably agree with ICE.

8. I find it interesting they are doing this at this time of the year.

Right now, far fewer agricultural workers are present. Also less construction workers present during the rainy season. Looks like they will be going after small businesses. They are purposely attacking certain industries and leaving others alone.

9. Going to hit those red county farmers and ranchers really hard.

Especially as they're getting ready for planting and "baby animal" season.

Not to mention all those back-country red-neck MAGA types who are trying to hire cheap construction labor to rebuild housing and businesses after last Northern California fall's firestorm.
This hits all those generally Republican employers of cheap, undocumented labor very badly.
Most "Native (White) Californians" don't do that sort of work very well - nor do they want that work at the wages employers want to pay.

15. Yeah

but sounds as though the ICE-holes are targeting cities and small businesses.

They are undoubtedly deliberately leaving rural CA--populated by puke-voting, dump-loving, welfare recipient (subsidies) farmers--alone, by design.

And, if their goal is to round up undocumented labor, why aren't they raiding e.g. big meatpacking operations? Oh, wait--owned by big corporations. Never mind.

This is sick--punishing a blue state for opposing the dumpenfuhrer.

10. Surely there are countermeasures available

It would be interesting to find out how state police or citizens might legally stand between ICE agents and alleged undocumented persons. In addition, I would assume our police would have the ability and right to perform surveillance or countermeasures on ICE agents should their be suspicion they are breaking state laws, or potentially endangering our citizens, or interfering in their life or ability to work.

Additionally, generally speaking I would expect there are ways to make sure these actions are expensive, and yield few results in comparison with the cost.
