Trump Lawyer Arranged $130,000 Payment for Adult-Film Stars Silence

Source: The Wall Street Journal

A lawyer for President Donald Trump arranged a $130,000 payment to a former adult-film star a month before the 2016 election as part of an agreement that precluded her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

Michael Cohen, who spent nearly a decade as a top attorney at the Trump Organization, arranged payment to the woman, Stephanie Clifford, in October 2016 after her lawyer negotiated the nondisclosure agreement with Mr. Cohen, these people said.

Ms. Clifford, whose stage name is Stormy Daniels, has privately alleged the encounter with Mr. Trump took place after they met at a July 2006 celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, these people said. Mr. Trump married Melania Trump in 2005.

78. Agree. NYT just posted, Newsweek, The Hill, Politico,

and more. Someone will have vetted, one assumes, and WSJ is completely unambiguous, stating it as fact.

Fire and Fury reports Trump had an extremely varied sex life, before and after Melania, and is also frequently foul mouthed, nothing at all new here. Whatever few constraints the media still held onto, to allow the president to project something of a desired presidential image, are clearly off.

Looks like calling other nations "shitholes" was a big, big mistake. Assuming that's the one, anyway.

Ms. Clifford looks like she is well qualified for the job she was hired for.

I dare say she brought a level of expertise and professionalism sadly lacking in Trumps cabinet, White House staff and political appointees.

The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal is an American business-focused, English-language international daily newspaper based in New York City. The Journal, along with its Asian and European editions, is published six days a week by Dow Jones & Company, a division of News Corp. The newspaper is published in the broadsheet format and online.

The Wall Street Journal is the largest newspaper in the United States by circulation. According to News Corp, in their June 2017 10-K Filing with the SEC, the Journal had a circulation of about 2.277 million copies (including nearly 1,270,000 digital subscriptions) as of June 2017, compared with USA Today's 1.7 million.

The newspaper has won 40 Pulitzer Prizes through 2017 (3) and derives its name from Wall Street in the heart of the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. The Journal has been printed continuously since its inception on July 8, 1889, by Charles Dow, Edward Jones, and Charles Bergstresser.

It is also, with a handful of other newspapers, the gold standard for print journalism in this country. Their editorial viewpoint skews well to the right, but you can take care of that by tearing off the last two pages of the first section and not reading them. I am aware that an editor has been charged with killing a juicy story about Trump. There are threads at DU about that.

Regardless, you don't get 40 Pulitzers for nuthin'.

There used to be some resistance to using it as a source at LBN, but that's in the past.

And: welcome to DU.

54. This is more than just a "difference of opinion", they were actively trying to discredit Mueller

The NY Times is also not the newspaper it use to be, even beyond the Judy Miller fiasco.

They hired climate denier Bret Stephens at a time when the trump administration and the republicans want to undo any gains made to curb green house gases, pollution, and exit the Paris Accords.

Perhaps one of their most outrageous articles was when the NY Times blamed the Democrats, and specifically President Obama for being responsible for pushing republicans to be climate change deniers because of the "Democratic hubris in the Obama years":

"The Republican Party’s fast journey from debating how to combat human-caused climate change to arguing that it does not exist is a story of big political money, Democratic hubris in the Obama years and a partisan chasm that grew over nine years like a crack in the Antarctic shelf, favoring extreme positions and uncompromising rhetoric over cooperation and conciliation."

They then proceeded in the article to make excuses for the republicans by saying "most republicans do not believe climate change is a hoax"

“Most Republicans still do not regard climate change as a hoax,” said Whit Ayres, a Republican strategist who worked for Senator Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign. “But the entire climate change debate has now been caught up in the broader polarization of American politics.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/03/us/politics/republican-leaders-climate-change.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

In another instance they did false equivalency garbage between the republicans and Democrats through a video by Mark Scheffle and Shane O'Neill telling us how both republicans and Democrats have flip-flopped on Comey. It is so out of context it is pathetic. Is this what the NY Times has become, trying so hard to present the appearance of objectivity they end up doing the exact opposite.

https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/politics/100000005090191/comey-fired-democrats-republicans.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=b-lede-package-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

Another example was when one of the Democrats on the FEC stepped down, the Times built the false equivalency argument that how there is deadlock because both sides won't budge. That was NOT the case at all, and was a gross distortion again.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/19/us/politics/fec-elections-ann-ravel-campaign-finance.html

In fact that report was so messed up, that the Democrat who resigned from the commission wrote a rebuttal to state the reality of the situation:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/20/opinion/dysfunction-and-deadlock-at-the-federal-election-commission.html

They have been doing the false equivalency schtick all through 2016, and they were right out there with the rest of the media outlets with headlines implying how Comey reopened the email investigation, while hidden between the ether that the email investigation was not reopened. One has to wonder if that was their attempt at sensationalism, rather then putting it in proper context

https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2016/10/30/ny-times-floods-front-page-fbi-letter-stories-while-acknowledging-it-didn-t-reopen-clinton-server/214202

There are plenty more examples, but suffice to say, the NY Times isn't even in the shadow of the newspaper it used to be

The days of the reporting of Woodward and Bernstein or The Pentagon Papers are long gone

and I would like to apologize for that.

I subscribe to the Washington Post online, but I am not going to recommend them over the NY Times, or any other paper for that matter, except to say that I think as readers, or listeners, it is probably a good idea to distinguish what parts of a story are news, as opposed to the writers opinion.

That is kind of what you were telling me in regard to the WSJ editorial views, verses its actual reporting of news, and you're right.

I think the problem comes into play when a news story incorporates a writers or a broadcasters personal views, and I guess it is up to us to make that distinction

82. Check out this paragraph from the NY Magazine about one of the WSJ's writer's James Freeman

Several sources pointed to the editorials by one writer, James Freeman. “All-in for Ted Cruz” during the primaries, Freeman wrote a strong attack on Trump’s Mob dealings, and had a second ready to go. But as Trump got closer to clinching the nomination, Paul Gigot kept delaying publication, saying “it needed work.” Once Trump became the likely Republican nominee, Freeman executed a neat volte-face. “The facts suggest that Mrs. Clinton is more likely to abuse liberties than Mr. Trump,” he wrote. “America managed to survive Mr. Clinton’s two terms, so it can stand the far less vulgar Mr. Trump"

What a bunch of whores.

No doubt she got wind of the settlement and was furious at having been cheated upon after only about a year of marriage.

Trump probably justified the affair by saying Melania at the time was pregnant and unattractive. I mean, he's only human, right?

86. To make a long story short,

Sachs & Romney stole/ destroyed our public company (eToys.com); and they retaliated at me for reporting their bribe attempt.

To protect them from being indicted, their lawyer was planted into the DOJ as US Attorney over the case (Colm Connolly was a partner of Sachs/ Bain law firm MNAT.com).

Years later, I received proof of the corruption; and was able to get Senatok Biden helped us and Joe blocked Colm becoming a Delaware Federal Judge.

This past Christmastime, Trump is now trying to sneak Colm Connolly back into that very same (empty for 9 years, blocked during Obams) judges seat
https://www.congress.gov/nomination/115th-congress/1331?r=6

Aadditionally, the Public Corruption Task Force was SHUT down, after I reported the Colm Connolly Corruption. Senator Feinstein wrote a letter, after we communicated the problem. https://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=ECFA735E-9A7F-A6C9-DFB2-F03C0133794E

Feinstein can't do nothing; because it is Delaware; and I'm no longer a neighbor of Biden's.

Everytime (EVERY TIME) , I get close to seeing justice, the FBI threatens me.

One time said I would be prosecuted for violating the Electronic Spam ACT for emailing specific agents and DOJ Deputies. Last year, Sept 26th, my fellow warrior (eToys shareholder Robert Alber - woke up dead - after his life was threatened and he had to shoot/ kill career criminal/ would be assassin Michael Sesseyoff).

3 days after Alber died, the DE FBI emailed me and called me. This time I thought justice would come. No FBI every called me and give his full name, cell# and email.

But he threatened me too (initially), on behalf of Asst US Attorney Ellen Slights (who was Colm Connolly's Assistant). Told me to take down my websites or the would put me away for life (I'm 61).

Told him to go F...

A week later, this agent convinced me he was sorry (actually sent me an email "Thank You" and asked to be kept in the loop.

Now I try to reach him, and learn he is Senior Agent (who is the one to give A-Okay by local background check, for Colm Connolly, to become judge.

He won't answer, and I get word Friday, Senate slips okay Connolly vote....So I call Baltimore and inform their corruption task force guy, this is unacceptable.

They tell me to call D.C. Task Force on Corruption; and I get handed to a call center that tells me I'm a Barret Brown threatening Agents and prosecutors

I told them F..them ..Bring on their arrest and prosecution

Last place they want my evidence, us a court of law.

59. The more subtle point is

that Trump can, in fact, be blackmailed. Despite his insistence (as well as that of his delusional cultists) that he is impervious to blackmail.

This incident proves it.

It actually confirms what the Steele Dossier noted - that Trump is not only susceptible to blackmail, but is probably actually being blackmailed by the Kremlin and/or the Russian Mafia, most likely because he's up to his neck in money laundering via dubious - and highly secretive - real estate transactions.

Dam, the girl blue inked the bottom line. I, Donald the Great (destroyer), is - literally - the most important/ famous, big highly guy, in this entire world. When I speak -
people listen!

Women are throwing themselves at me, everywhere (so much so I gave a few to the Secret service guys).

She violated an iron-clad Non-Disclosure agreement (gonna have to call Jeff Sessions, right away).

You simply can't trust anyone or any document thingy.

Can't a pathological lying, narcissistic, spoiled rich brat, POTUS, get a break these days...

Shheesshh!

34. We don't know whether SHE violated the non-disclosure agreement or whether

the WSJ researched until they found someone who knew the story about her and Trump. All kinds of people are involved in arriving at settlements.

Did she file a lawsuit or just write a letter?

You can't jump to conclusions about these things. She may have a manager. The manager may have an office. There are bank clerks. There are all kinds of people who know the details about such deals. Including Trump's staff, his lawyer's staff. (on edit) Co-workers, family, random people who may have met her, then there is Trump, Melania, Trump's many "friends" and co-workers -- Bannon. Who knows? The number of people involved is not so small.

That's one of the reasons why he's constantly in financial trouble.

So why is this any different?

Seriously. Educate me.

28. OK, I googled this and

It is all pretty old stuff. Nothing has ever been made of it and Clifford has always denied anything to do with Trump other than having met him at a golf tourney and dinner once with Trump and Rothlesburger (Steelers QB). I really doubt that anything will ever come out about this.... sadly...

and 130k of hush money isn't "i'm innocent, stop bothering me" money, it's "don't share the criminality of my actions" money. we'll eventually hear the details.

40. Another source...

http://www.newsweek.com/who-stormy-daniels-trump-paid-former-porn-star-stephanie-clifford-130k-keep-780251

Donald Trump had his lawyer arrange a payment of $130,000 to a woman known as “Stormy Daniels” just one month before the 2016 election, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, is a former adult-film star who allegedly had a sexual encounter with Trump. Clifford and Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen—a former attorney for the Trump Organization—arranged the $130,000 along with a nondisclosure agreement.

Clifford claims the sexual encounter with Trump occurred in 2006 after a Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Stormy Daniels strode onstage at a downtown Baton Rouge restaurant in a tight black blouse with a plunging neckline and a knee-length skirt in the popular purple of Louisiana State University. She introduced herself with a warning.

“For those of you who don’t know who I am,” she told the lunch crowd at The Roux House, “I’d suggest that you don’t Google that until you get home from work.”

The Dump constantly denying will give him permanent constipation.

Come on, little donnie, let it loose! You'll feel better and we can hire some plumbers with backhoes to unclog the pipes.

A diet of buggers and lies has got to be hard on a normal digestive system.

Paying for her "laundry" ?

So when he "grabs 'em by the pussy'", they just grab him by the wallet?

He has to pay $130,000 to get laid? Maybe he has a tiny dick after all.

He's a spoiled sociopath. He long been known to be a sexual deviant and I think his deviance goes way beyond the pee tapes.

This is a sick human being. Pedophilia and worse are likely among his tastes. He's never had any limits, nothing it out of bounds for a monster like him.
