Reporter who broke 's-hole' story: 'We stand by our reporting 100 percent'

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/12/18 09:33 AM EST

The Washington Post reporter who broke the story Thursday that President Trump referred to Haiti and several African nations as "shithole countries" during an Oval Office meeting with lawmakers says he stands by the story in the wake of Trump's denials.

Josh Dawsey told CNN that the fact that the White House did not deny the story overnight until Trump's tweet this morning was proof enough that the quote was real. "In the course of our reporting yesterday we took the comments we were going to report directly to the White House, told them exactly what we were going to say. We did not get a denial," Dawsey told CNN.

"Obviously, [White House spokesman Raj Shah's] statement did not deny. We got it confirmed from multiple places, The New York Times, The Associated Press, CNN have confirmed it as well," he added.

"This comes 15 hours later," the reporter continued. "So the president obviously has the right to express his opinion on the story, as he has on Twitter, but we stand by our reporting 100 percent."

The significance is bigger than “shithole.” The president’s supporters are pushing hard for a “merit-based” immigration model, but Trump today didn’t say he wants more doctors, engineers or scientists. He said he wants “Norway.” And Norway is not a skill.

Trump’s history of making offensive comments about nonwhite immigrants

By Eugene Scott January 11 at 6:08 PM

President Trump appears to have a habit of making offensive comments about nonwhite immigrants. And while many of his surrogates argue that the president is not against this particular population, there is a trail of comments that tell a different story.

The Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey reported Thursday that Trump made a comment about wanting more immigrants from places like Norway rather than from “shithole counties” like Haiti and those in Africa.

“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” he told lawmakers during a meeting in the Oval Office on Thursday, according to two people briefed on the session.

The White House released a statement that did not deny the comment. Its statement said, “Like other nations that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation.”

4. Hair Furors ass-mouth or tiny fingers were moving, so it's obvious he's telling mean lies.

I changed my line because it's become so obvious that it's not just that he lies every time he tweets or says anything, but that the lies are said for mean or self-aggrandizing purposes as well. He only has 2 modes, happy fascist dictator when he's getting things through that personally benefit him, taking away from regular working class or poor Americans or mean dictator when he's gleefully talking about hurting others.
