Donald Trump visit to London called off amid fears of mass protests

Source: The Guardian

Donald Trump has backed off the idea of visiting Britain next month to open the new US embassy in London amid fears of mass protests.

Government sources suggested that Washington had signalled that secretary of state Rex Tillerson would instead open the multimillion-pound embassy.
...
Officials had been examining plans for the president to meet the Queen, without the pomp of a full-blown state banquet, with the attendant risk of disruptive protests.

However, even that more modest plan now appears to have been abandoned for the time being.

('Trumpton' was a children's TV model animation over 40 years ago; someone set it up to do political satire, largely poking fun at the Tories and UKIP. And then Trump arose, and the name coincidence was too much to resist ...)

3. 60+% of this country would love to call off Trump.

If Prince Harry doesn’t want this Orange Buffoon at his wedding, why does he think the British would want him in their country?

8. In addition to that, he was unhappy the Queen wouldn't meet with him nor was it a state visit.

He wanted a big ass state visit complete with a ride in the Queen's carriage, along with getting to tell the Queen how big his button is and how awesome he is.

Mr Trump had been due to come to London to open the new £750m embassy, but was said to have abandoned the idea as he feels unhappy about the scale of the visit and the arrangements made.

He is said to be unhappy about the lack of "bells and whistles" surrounding the event and the fact he would not be able to meet the Queen.

10. How ironic

The U.S. completes a $1 billion embassy just when there's an administration that doesn't believe in diplomacy.

12. I'm sure that all of England weeps at its loss.

They could have been blessed by a visit by Trump, but, alas, it was not to be.

Sad.

16. Trump will go, but not in May

They don't want him at Prince Harry's wedding, that's been made clear. If Trump went in May there would be an expectation that he'd be invited. The Brits don't want to be rude, so this is a relief to everyone.

The article linked in the OP says Trump might go next month to cut the ribbon on the new American Embassy in London.
He's still not getting a ride in the Queen's golden carriage. It's off limits to non-royalty.
