ICE Director Calls For Arrest Of 'Sanctuary' City And State Officials

Source: Talking Points Memo

By MATT SHUHAM Published JANUARY 3, 2018 10:37 AM

The acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday advocated for the arrest of local and state government officials who don’t cooperate with federal immigration agents.

“This is a victimization of the American community,” Thomas Homan told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto. “This isn’t the America I grew up in. We’ve got to take these sanctuary cities on. We’ve got to take them to court, and we’ve got to start charging some of these politicians with crimes.”

While there’s no strict legal definition a “sanctuary” city or state, Homan, who President Donald Trump has nominated to serve as ICE’s formal director, was responding to California’s SB54, which went into effect on Jan. 1.

The law, like many on the local level nationwide, limits police officers’ ability to detain suspected undocumented immigrants on federal agents’ behalf. The bill’s author, Senate Leader Kevin de Leon, said it would put “a large kink in Trump’s perverse and inhuman deportation machine.”

An important legal mechanism by which we, at the state/city/municipality level judge a law to be shitty or outdated and unenforceable.

It's not on the Sanctuary Cities to solve the problem. It's on the Congress. Want to arrest people? Arrest Congress. They are the ones not fixing the issue, and even making it worse.

concerned about illegal immigration, why don't they arrest the employers for hiring them?
Put a few of those guys in jail. That will get their attention.
They could start with the CEO of Cloverhill Bakery in Illinois. The company was raided last
November. 800 workers were detained. Do you honestly believe management knew
nothing of their employees status?

If Kansas called up the national guard and refused to pay money to the federal government, the US economy would be buoyed by it. It would be a net good for the nation. Let's do that.

California, New York -- a substantial segment of the national economy and tax base. Huge. It'd be game over.

Not a state's rights guy. Just a human rights guy.

it out in public. He also should have done a little fact checking before he made a fool of himself... oh, nevermind, he was on Fox News so fact don't matter.

The sanctuary cities just won a major victory over Trump in Federal court and the new ruling holds that Trump policy is unconstitutional.

is that local and state police forces do not have to arrest or detain an illegal immigrant. They are required to not impede federal police agencies from doing their jobs.
