Michele Bachmann eyeing run for Franken's Senate seat
Source: CNN
Bachmann, who was a member of Congress representing Minnesota until 2015, told "The Jim Bakker Show" that she's mulling over whether she should run. Franken announced he would leave the Senate following accusations that he had groped several women, and his final day as a senator is Tuesday.
"I've had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat," Bachmann said. "The only reason I would run is for the ability to take these principles into the United States Senate," she said, later adding, "The question is should it be me? Should it be now? But there's also a price you pay. And the price is bigger than ever because the swamp is so toxic."
"We're trying to be wise," Bachmann continued, suggesting that Franken was dropped by Democrats because the party wants to be able to hurl false accusations against Republicans in coming elections.
"I'm not saying that he didn't do some bad boy things. I think he did. But he didn't do what Harvey Weinstein did. ... But the Democrat party, they even admit they threw Al Franken under the bus because they wanted to look pure," she said.

So, there you have it. Let's hope the people in Minnesota vote for the Dem appointee instead of Bachmann.

Who the hell trusts tReasonous tRump, beauguard, the DHS, the GOP and sleazy, law-breaking Kris Kobach? Who'd have thought what would happen in PA., WI., MI., would happen as far as Dem voter-purging and Dem missing-votes etc. was concerned?
And, who knows what role the ruskies will have in our 2018 and 2020 elections (That's if we have a GE in 2020).

Yep, I hear you. Friends who continue to tell me that 2018 will be a blue wave seem to forget that "they" run everything. Then they say that if enough of us get out to vote, that they can't possibly deal with our overwhelming numbers. I tell them hey, all thuglicans have to do is find a way to make most of those overwhelming voters votes "GO MISSING," adjust for cheating windage. They also tell me that I'm being too negative. Positivity is a great to have, but little has changed since 2016's GE (GOP-lead voter-suppression efforts, voter ID expansion, gerrymandering) across the country has it? NOPE. Very little, and 2018 is HERE, and this fall's mid-term elections months away.

(4,238 posts)Thanks to Kirsten, we now have to add another challenge onto an already long list of seats to defend.
And it goes without saying that an electorate that chose trump, and almost elected a child molestor to the Senate, could very easily elect a psychopathic nutjob to replace one of the best Senators our party had.

Hell, the last time she ran as an incumbent for her congressional seat she won by just over 1%.
If she indeed runs it will be the biggest gift the far right gives to the Democratic Party.

(6,974 posts)He won, but really didn't win.
The 2016 GE was gerrymandered, voter-suppressed by the GOP who also very possibly helped to throw some states to tRump (PA., MI., WI.), and the ruskies played their part in installing fatso into the Oval Office.
What happened in 2016's GE was NOT normal. I see very little change as far as making all votes count and fair leading into 2018 unfortunately.

(10,952 posts)Democrats wil have only themselves to blame. After Senator Franken announced that he would be resignation there have been no more allegations made against him. He was the subject of a diry political hit job instituted by the Republicans and the Democrats fell for it. We put a pretty safe Democratic seat at risk which is really stupid.
I would like to see a total change in leadership with the old leadership being replaced by smarter, more astute people who will be much better at playing the political game.

Family visits are painful. And sometimes quite short.
Minnesota is not a a hard core blue state. Great pockets of deep, deep, unyielding red.
The Dem congress critters screwed up in a major way forcing Franken out. The Repugs were pretty quiet about the whole thing - just let the Dems step in it, sadly cheered on by many on this site.

Man, I sure am glad that other senators from other states ganged up on Al and forced him to resign so we can get this PRECIOUS GEM of an elected representative! Whoa boy, did Gillibrand really strike a blow for woman by standing up to that woman-hating Al Franken.
