WASHINGTON (AP) Republican Rep. Mo Brooks said Wednesday he has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery this week.
The four-term Alabama lawmaker sought the GOP nomination in the Senate race but lost. He said that after losing the primary he got a physical and a screening in which the disease was discovered. Brooks said he didnt know if he would have had time to undergo the physical if he had been competing in a general election.
God works in mysterious ways. Its paradoxical, but it may have saved my life, Brooks said of the primary loss.
On Tuesdays election, in which Democrat Doug Jones upset Republican Roy Moore, Brooks says I am very glad it is behind us.

(57,013 posts)I really think I got it because I didn't believe second hand smoke was dangerous at all. I thought the smokers were "filtering" out the bad stuff. I am having my fourth cancer surgery next Tuesday, I found out about that last Monday.
The leading cause of bladder cancer is second hand smoke, and I am also sure G*d doesn't go around smiting people with cancer, She shows her love and has bigger fish to fry than petty GOP politicians.

(6,578 posts)Speaking with CNN's Jake Tapper about House plans to vote on a revised health insurance bill, Rep. Mo Brooks, R-AL, referenced people who lead "good lives" and said they should not have to pay as much as others.
"My understanding is that (the new proposal) will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher health care costs to contribute more to the insurance pool," Brooks said. "That helps offset all these costs, thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives, they're healthy, they've done the things to keep their bodies healthy. And right now, those are the people--who've done things the right way--that are seeing their costs skyrocketing."

(10,749 posts)Why didn't god prevent your cancer? Have you been naughty? Are you undeserving? If you survive your operation and your cancer is removed, you just gotta wonder, don't you, Mo, why god would give you cancer and then allow mortals to take it away. Seems like an awful lot of trouble. If god gave you cancer, why not just let him take it away? Sounds like you might not trust him. Also, it does seem costly to get humans involved. Gets complicated with that god thing, doesn't it?
