An acclaimed trauma surgeon was found dead with a knife in his torso Sunday in his Park Avenue apartment in a suspected suicide, New York City police said.
Dr. Dean Lorich, 54, was the associate director of the orthopedic trauma service at the Hospital for Special Surgery who treated Bono in 2014 after the U2 frontman was badly injured in a cycling accident in Central Park.
His death is being investigated as an apparent suicide, a New York Police Department official told ABC News. Initial investigations did not find any signs of forced entry at his apartment, the official said. Authorities have not found a suicide note.
Police responding to a 911 call of an assault in a Park Avenue apartment at 1:05 p.m. Sunday found Lorich unconscious and unresponsive with a knife in his torso, according to the NYPD.

(15,775 posts)A friend of mine's father did just that. He was a psychiatrist (MD), had lost his wife to cancer, lost his second wife to divorce, and was struggling with severe depression. Apparently, he was making a sandwich in his kitchen and he stabbed himself in the heart with a sharp knife. Horrible outcome, but it happened.

(22,850 posts)What struck me as well is how quickly police jumped to the conclusion that it was suicide (maybe it was - but why jump to that conclusion so quickly?).
Remind me of the murder of CNBC vice president Kevin Krim's two children the day after he reported the $43 trillion bankster lawsuit (i.e. the real cost of the 2008 bailout). He took the story down within minutes of being informed of the murder.
The diminutive Hispanic nanny, whose throat had been slit, was blamed for the murders both by police and the media.

(17,068 posts)I was just looking at his picture and couldn't figure out why he looked so familiar....and it hit me and I looked it up...he was at Penn with me and was a med student at Penn when I was there. I dated a fellow medical student of his after he graduated and he was friends with a group of people I knew.
This is crazy....I am certain we know a lot of people in common....
